Fla. GOP advises some to vote absentee
July 29, 2004  |  Tallahassee, FL -- Republican Gov. Jeb Bush has tried for months to persuade Florida voters touchscreen voting machines are reliable. His own party apparently hasn't gotten the message.

The state GOP paid for a flier critical of the new technology and sent it to some south Florida voters where a primary election is scheduled next month.

"The new electronic voting machines do not have a paper ballot to verify your vote in case of a recount," the message states. "Make sure your vote counts. Order your absentee ballot today."

4. thanks, that HAS to be the plan.
I was scratching a hole in my head on this one.

If voting absentee is essentially a vote for paper, I wonder how many people have to vote absentee before it will be read as a mandate.

3. I made sure my parents are voting absentee
The ballots arrived today for the Aug. primaries. My only concern is that Greg Palast has stated that the optical scan used to count the absentees is not foolproof either.

8. Some Florida democrats running for re-election are also sending out fliers
also asking voters to "make sure your vote counts. Order your absentee ballot today."

My husband and I were wondering whether we should order our absentee ballots, or come November go to the polls to vote...

Knowing that even Republican politicos want their constituents to vote absentee we may decide to go ahead and order our absentee ballots. WE look forward to a KERRY tsunami come November that will wash Bush out and place Kerry in the White House.

9. if I was you
I would go for the absentee ballots for you and your husband. As stated before at least with absentee ballots you have paper proof to count, with the touch screens you have nothing!

Do you ever listen to Randi Rhodes?
