Australian companies win defence work - BAE Systems
July 30, 2004 - 12:55PM

Adelaide-based BAE Systems had been selected as principal partner to manage electronic warfare work in Australia for the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program, in a contract worth about $US23 ($A33.02m), Senator Hill said.

The Joint Strike Fighter project is an international program to develop a next-generation multi-role fighter for the US Air Force, US Navy and US Marine Corps.

"It's pleasing for us that even though the knockers said that Australian companies wouldn't be able to compete ... we now have 13 separate companies that have been successful in winning work (for the JSF project)," Senator Hill said in Adelaide.

"Apart from those there is about 200 different work pieces that are still out to Australian companies within the tender and evaluation process, so we're really quite confident that we are going to get even further contracts."
