Suit says dead inmate was victim of 'savage beating' (CCA Prison)
I've been waiting for a suit like this to be filed.

The family of Estelle Richardson, who was found dead July 5 in her prison cell from a fatal head wound, is going to court in an effort to blame the prison management firm for the death.

A lawsuit filed yesterday in federal court accuses the Nashville-based Corrections Corporation of America and four correctional officers of killing Estelle Richardson, 34, during a ''savage beating'' that used excessive force and grossly violated her rights.
...
CCA yesterday released a statement declining to comment, saying that company officials had not been served with the lawsuit.

Metro police investigated the case and said Richardson had died from ''blunt trauma'' while in custody in the Metro Detention Facility at Harding Place, which is run by CCA.

Consider the impact of publicly-owned, private prisons. It could be a great means to bring about prison reform, or it could be a great way to encourage public complacency, as citizens - OOPS - consumers - can now profit from the prison industry.

1. As long as the so called "War on Drugs" continues....
We'll continue to see the rise in private, for-profit prisons. The amount of money this faux war generates for private prisons is incredible. Add that to the staggering amount of our tax dollars paid to government agencies like the DEA and the other jack-booted thugs who enforce our unconstitutional drug laws and you've got a vast sum of money that is being wasted.

The DEA, BATF, and all of the other alphabet soup of goon squads. And they wonder why Americans mistrust their government.

6. Certainly That's Motivation
to keep the inmates coming.

But where I used to view this subject entirely with cynicism (make us complicit by owning stock and keep us quiet) I now wonder if there isn't an avenue for change.

7. There is a culture of death in the "shadow government" that rewards
these human monsters with no-bid contracts paid for with our taxes.
Then they are sub-contracted, with no accountability-by design.
But people get upset to HEAR THIS, because IT IS PART OF A CONSPIRACY that detracts from having a nice day.

8. I suspect this type of treatment is all too common in the U.S. system.
