BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A loud blast was heard in central Baghdad close to midnight on Friday, a Reuters witness said.

The center of the city has been regularly targeted by insurgents in recent weeks as Iraq's interim government and fledgling security forces try to bring stability to the volatile country.

On Tuesday, insurgents fired several mortar rounds in Baghdad, killing an Iraqi civilian and wounding 14 foreign soldiers, the U.S. military and police said.

On Monday, insurgents fired several mortars in central Baghdad, wounding one person.
