In Texas, Bush Ends A Pause; Kerry Sets Off to Cover 22 States

Saturday, July 31, 2004; Page A01

SCRANTON, Pa., July 30 -- Seeking to sustain the energy from their national convention in Boston, the newly minted Democratic ticket arrived here Friday at the start of a two-week, coast-to-coast campaign trip, with John F. Kerry telling a throng of supporters that they "deserve a president who fights as hard for your job as he fights for his job."

(snip)

More than 10,000 people greeted Kerry and John Edwards and their families midafternoon here in Scranton, many having waited for several hours as the Democratic team and its 17-vehicle caravan launched a bus, boat, plane and train trip that will take the two candidates to 22 states in pursuit of their goal of denying Bush a second term.

"These are dangerous times today," Kerry told the audience. "We're living in a world that's changed dramatically from the world of four years ago, and we deserve leadership that tells the truth to the American people and helps America act like a beacon to the world."

(snip)

Edwards said he had learned on arrival that Scranton was home to a museum dedicated to escape artist Harry Houdini and added, "Well, John and I are going to make something disappear."

1. Please post for me ...
... if this deserves its own thread:

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/southflorida/sfl-cabsentee30jul30,0,7600265.story?coll=sfla-news-sfla

"GOP apologizes over voting flier; glossy mailer warns against touch-screens

An embarrassed state Republican Party apologized Thursday for a GOP campaign brochure that urged voters to use absentee ballots, undermining efforts by Gov. Jeb Bush and Secretary of State Glenda Hood to inspire confidence in new touch-screen voting machines."

(Sorry for this approach, but this forum's rules do not consider me worthy of starting a thread due to insufficient postings.)
