For alleged White House threat, teenager gets writing assignment
Associated Press

ROANOKE, Va. -- A teenager who allegedly used a library computer to threaten President Bush was ordered to write a research paper on homeland security, and he'll have to do it without the Internet.

"The court is willing to forgive you if you follow what I suggest you do," Roanoke County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Judge Joseph Bounds told the 14-year-old on Tuesday. "But the burden is on you."

The teenager e-mailed threats to kill the president and bomb the White House from a library computer, authorities said. In May, he pleaded guilty to felony charges of extortion, threatening to kill the president and threatening to bomb the White House. ...

In addition to saying he would kill the president and bomb the White House, the e-mailer also threatened to take hostages unless he was paid $2,000 in cash.

2. For $2000, he could've bought himself a smokin' good computer...
...although the going rate for hostage-taking should be a bit higher.

3. Well, I would consider that a first
someone who makes a threat against the WH, and doesn't get jailed.

I'm surprised the teacher wasn't suspended for having a student who made that kind of statement.

The precedent is there.

Remember the teacher who was suspended for actually putting up a student's "Anti-War" poster, along with the other student's "patriotic" posters?

Oh, wait, can't show off your goose-stepping in jackboots during the "feel-good" period before the GOP convention.

4. Nah * looks at this kid and sees a future recruit...
Someone in Iraq, Iran, Syria, Russia, China, oh just wherever we are invading at the time will take care of.
