Luzerne County (PA) puts hold on absentee ballots
Luzerne County puts hold on absentee ballots

WILKES-BARRE -- Luzerne County Bureau of Elections said it has been forced to deny absentee ballot applications that an official said were prompted by a mass mailing from President (sic) George W. Bush's campaign.

Leonard Piazza, director of the election bureau, said Tuesday a mailing sent out by the Bush/Cheney campaign encouraged the county's absentee ballot-eligible voters to submit their applications and vote in the Nov. 2 election.

An absentee ballot application was included in the mailing. Mr. Piazza said the campaign could have received a list of absentee ballot-eligible voters from his department or a third party. He was unsure how many people received the letters and applications.

1. Florida export to PA
Nice ploy. It mainly is the old trick of putting ballot applications directly into the hands of supporters, NOT the general populace, all the other malarkey being inconsequentional to the goal. That way you don't have to cart reluctant or on vacation in Biarritz GOPers to the polls. You might even slip in some applications and ballots for the non-responders should they not choose to reply themselves!

Nice try and no punishment attached. A little bit of this and that. NOW is the time to stop it. Nothing rolled back this petty stuff in 2000.

3. Don't worry, we're going to get the Philly vote out in record numbers
When Philly voters get out and vote, republicans cannot win the state of Pennsylvania. (this includes the 4 county suburbs of Philly plus Philadelphia county)

8. Yes, Pittsburgh folks rock, too!!
I am a CT resident, but travel to Pittsburgh so much that I should vote right here in Pennsylvania, where it would 'count!' (Conn. is already a solid blue state.)

13. I sure hope so
I live outside Philly and have been very discouraged lately looking at PA on www.electoral-vote.com.
I don't feel that our Gov is working very hard for Kerry at all. If we don't win in our area, we are in big trouble in PA. It is NOT a shoe-in. Bush is here every other week. Kerry has to come here more often.

2. KEEP this kicked!
I have NO doubt this is the tip of a very large iceberg. That, quite matter-of-factly the Busheviks are using public and campaign funds to solicit absentee ballots.

NONE of the gaping holes revealed in our voting system has been addressed and touchscreen "voitng" is now an additional gaping hole by design.

This is one of many ways the Busheviks are corrupting our system.

4. Any mass mailing from the chimp's
campaign in Luzerne County is going to result in extra votes for Kerry. Luzerne County is heavily Dem. Current registration figures show approx. 115,000 Dem to 72,000 repuke. Gore took it by 10,000 votes and Nader got another 3,000 last time around. Thousands of seniors in Luzerne County depend on Social Security and Medicare to survive. Manufacturing jobs long gone. Not chimp friendly territory.

5. They did the same thing here in Honolulu
Asshats.
Hogging material the public paid for to gain an advantage.
At least we have safe elections machines with a paper trail.

6. We Got Them Here Too
My wife and I got those same absentee ballot applications from the Bush/Cheney campaign here in Lancaster Co., PA, too. We thought it was a little strange since my wife is registered as a Democrat and I am registered as an Independant.

9. This is f'n outrageous. In CO, they oppose mail voting.
They oppose it nationwide, I assume.

Yet they mail their own goddamned monkey supporters absentee ballots, which are only supposed to be used if the voter is actually going to be out of town or unavailable on election day, not just for convenience.

Democrats out to use this as an way to hammer these assholes into accepting nationwide mail balloting.

12. The problem, ecoalex, is most of the absentee ballots
are going just to repubs (Florida). The biggest mistake was putting a pic of * on the flyer. Who has a copy of it, I have seen it posted here before.
On the other hand, this way of voting insures a "paper trail", if you will, so many more people are opting for it.

This is so confusing, isn't it?
