Activist's battle cry: 'God is not a Republican' (RMN)
By Jean Torkelson, Rocky Mountain News
September 13, 2004

A Denver audience of 700 applauded social activist Jim Wallis Sunday when he criticized Christianity's so-called "religious right" saying, "Our faith has been stolen, and it's time to take it back
>snip

Wallis was in Denver raising money to place a petition in the nation's newspapers headlined, "God is not a Republican. Or a Democrat." In it, Wallis blasts conservative Christian leaders "who mistakenly claim God has taken a side in this election" and are backing President Bush.

"Good Christians can vote for President Bush; I have no problem with that," Wallis said in a recent interview. "But you can't ordain one candidate as God's candidate and you can't be single-issue voters."

Good article, I'm hoping this is the beginning a grass roots movement. MKJ

2. well - repugs wrapped themselves in the flag
laid claim to patriotism, why not take over "God"?

I read an interesting editorial in a Minneapolis paper about bush* and his "base"

editorial pointed out that the Democratic party has not been this united since LBJ - where as bush* inc. is striving to hang onto it's "religious right" base and moderate conservatives...

Driving home from Minneapolis yesterday - on a NPR station there was a program focusing on the "diversity" of the repug party. One of the interesting items that was "sort of" brought out was that even though they have a big tent and want to be seen as "inclusive" - when it comes down to allowing different 'conservative' views to be included in the campaign platform - many of the "wings" were excluded

They may have a big tent - but alot of people are relegated to the back of the tent
