Fort Carson servicewoman fatally wounded in Iraq
FORT CARSON, Colo.- An Army sergeant based at Fort Carson has died from a gunshot wound in Iraq, military officials said Friday. She is just the second U.S. servicewoman to die in the war.

Sgt. Melissa Valles, 26, of Eagle Pass, Texas, died Wednesday from non-combat injuries in Balad, according to the Defense Department. The accident was under investigation and details of the incident were not released. <cut

"We know it is a gunshot wound to the abdomen. We just don't know the circumstances," said Lt. Col. Tom Budzyna, base spokesman.

2. oh, how CONVENIENT...

Let's fudge the causes of our casualties as much as possible, that way the media whores can get away with their little "deaths from hostile action" trick and report many fewer casualties. Then Big KKKarl will be happy and not mad at them...

Traitors.

3. I don't give a shit about "non-combat" injuries
She died in a war zone, during a war (regardless of what that idiot said on the carrier) - she's a casualty of war!!! She's a casualty of lies and deceptions and I feel horrible for her family and the families of all who have lost loved ones. This sucks!

And the press has to STOP reporting these "non-combat" injuries. Just report the deaths for what they are.

6. service woman
Right! Just because she didn't die in combat doesn't make her less dead.

4. On the VietNam Memorial are "Non-combat" deaths in smaller print?
Or is this the invention of Rove and a US Media without balls.

Oh I know our media is not right wing controlled - they just act that way - but I get tired of the act.

5. Excellent point
We need to shove this down the Wingers throats whenever they are "belittling" KIA counts because they weren't a direct result of enemy contact.

13. THEY ALL DIED IN THE SERVICE
No one I know makes any distinction. I know and have known too any Gold Star Mothers. Every one of the Mothers I know misses her child, even though a lot of these "children" would be 52 to 62 years old.

THE BASTARDS---WOLFIE, CHENEY AND THE CHIMP

dishonor the dead--- who died in one way or another for the oil of the REPUBLICAN ruling class.

7. Another suicide?
Aside from the WMD debate, the Bush team's incompetence in handling the ongoing crisis is creating an atmosphere of hopelessness for many of the U.S. soldiers in Iraq. They have no idea if they'll be there for six months or six years, or killed tomorrow.
