Kerry won
-- If there's one thing President Bush should know to avoid in debates, it's the audible sigh. And the eye-rolling. Yet there he was last night, doing his best Al Gore, as most TV networks ran those forbidden cutaway shots that hurt him as much as John Kerry did.

If you don't believe us, or the CNN/USA Today/Gallup post-debate poll (more on that below), just ask the New York Post. (Complete coverage: Debating the debate)

Under the headline, "Bad Night for W," the country's most rabidly pro-Bush paper forgave Kerry for his New York subway faux pas to report that the president was "unusually off his game" last night in the University of Miami's basketball arena.

Even that paper's most rabidly pro-Bush reporter, Deborah Orin, said Kerry "seemed far better prepared than Bush," who "often repeated himself and at times seemed at a loss for words or defensive. ... By the time the debate was over, it seemed clear that Kerry had given himself a new lease on life and guaranteed that the campaign has a long way to run."

1. Hard to have the game face on with US soldiers being blown up every day
Ask Lyndon B. Johnson.

7. How true, but at least you can say LBJ had a heart
- he cared about people in some sense (the Civil Rights acts he signed).

And I believe that 'Nam weighed heavy on his heart - it gave out on him shortly after leaving office!

25. No he didn't.
He was a psychopath, according to his biographer, Robert Caro.
Read his The Path to Power.

8. "Unusually" off his game?
Don't think so. He is always like that, it's just that the media decides not to notice the rest of the time.

20. No. He used to be relatively smooth and articulate
See the tape of the Ann Richards debate for example where he speaks regular English and complete sentences.. He then plays the country bumpkin for so long it starts to become first nature. And then - one possible diagnisis is pre-senile dementia.

11. flustered parrot
It wasn't the uncomfortable smirking that did him in. It was the fact that ol'georgie boy only has about 6 or 7 lines he kept saying over and over again. He ended up lookin a fool!

Kerry picked him apart piece by piece. I think John K went miles to disprove that flip-flopper bullshit the repugs have projected onto him and he looked darned presidential doing so.

My favorite line was when Kerry was asked what mistakes 'W' has made and he laughed saying, "Where should I begin?"

I did a cartoon about the debate;

Kerry Kicked Ass!

12. Bush is ILL... I'm certain of it.
All the wild speculation around here this past year really came to fruition last night. Bush is suffering from some ailment. It's obvious. He NEVER used to blink furiously, twitch, etc. His face went red so many times, he drank water to the point of ridiculousness, he seemed to be able to contruct decent sentences, but he was simply repeating things he had in his head.. he wasn't thinking about his responses much. He seemed more disjointed than usual.

I am absolutely CONVINCED that Bush is ill,and that is why he is REFUSING to take his physical BEFORE the election. Mark my words! He's ill.

15. I agree.
What I saw there was not a well man.

Yes, sick or not, he is still an asshole, but there was something else happening there; something that would disturb the American People greatly were he to be honest about it.

13. Kerry far better prepared than little bush?....
The truth is that it is not how well prepared John Kerry was, it is how ignorant, stupid, non-intelligent bush is. The world knows bush is a dummy and a puppet. He's a fake. Kerry is intelligent and knows all the facts and didn't need much prepareness.

My neighbor said, little bush shamed his father last night. At least his father can put two sentences together.

Kerry even beat the crap out of little bush by using his father's legacy. A father little bush hates and is at war wanting to be better than his father - mano a mano. Little bush never mentions any of his father's achievements. Little bush only dreams of being Reagan's son. Ron Reagan beat the shit out of him too.

14. CSPAN Ran the Whole Debate Split-Screen
We got to see every fidget and sigh (by either candidate), and it was Kerry who looked
calm and steady and Presidential, and the usurper looked more like a very guilty
defendant on the stand.

Bush uttered some rediculousnesses last night that would have made me spit up had I been Kerry.

17. I watched the C-SPAN feed
and I was pleasantly surprised at their choice to air it that way. I also noticed besides Dubya's uncomfotable body language, he was blinking whenever he spoke, like a hostage trying to send a message in Morse Code

18. There was a photo on Yahoo news today showing Kerry as gigantic
and * as very small.

Each at their lectern but the camera was closer to Kerry on the left and farther from *on the right, so * looks like a tiny man.

21. I also saw a spliced-together photo on ABC this morning-
It put the podiums next to each other and Kerry's was obviously several inches higher than Bush's.
