Mexico's 'Fire Volcano' Erupts, No Evacuations Yet
Oct. 1, 2004 — LA YERBABUENA, Mexico (Reuters) - Mexico's so-called "Fire Volcano" spewed lava, glowing rocks and flames on Friday in an eruption that authorities said was not yet serious enough to evacuate nearby villages.

A wide stream of lava had been clearly visible at night flowing down the 12,540-foot (3,860-meter) volcano in Colima state. A giant column of smoke billowed several miles into the air during the day, an eyewitness said.

The "Fire Volcano" is located in a sparsely populated rural zone between the western, coastal states of Colima and Jalisco, about 300 miles from Mexico City.

Emergency authorities said the explosions have continued since activity started with small blasts on Wednesday, but that the situation was still not serious enough to move the roughly 100 residents of the tiny villages around it.

15. Already happened
Several countries in Africa were hit with record swarms of locusts this summer, even furthering the misery resulting from drought and famine.

Haven't heard from the frogs, though. ;)

16. The Yellowstone Caldera is what worries me
When she blows we all might as well pop the cork on the champagne and kiss our butts goodbye. I wonder if the USGS has noted any increased "activity" there lately.

6. Is this
Popocatepetyl(sp?)? I can't tell from the report. My brother was 5 miles from the base the last time it blew and I watched it on video cam but I can't find it now. Anyone know?

9. Thanks
the sites I was checking are in Spanish and my spanish is not great for translation of information. I think Popo is also going off a bit from the looks of the last report from today.

10. No, El Volcan del Fuego is between the states of Colima & Jalisco.
It's part of the line of volcanos stretching across Mexico--which includes Popocatepetl (easier to spell than to pronounce).

Here's a picture from an earlier eruption:

13. That is funny.
I can say it easier than I can spell it! My brother taught me to pronounce it and since he was getting ready to move to the base of it he thought it proper I could say it. Usually I just call it Popo. I have a real feel for that volcano because of him. He would call me from the roof of the house when it was erupting. I used to watch it frequently but since he died I have stopped.

11. not one but two volcanoes......and on the quintile
http://www.chiron-communications.com/

The planetary alignments of October, 2004, come in the middle of this long epoch of transition. On October 1and then later on October 28 the planets  (Moon, Saturn, Jupiter, Pluto, and Uranus) will arrange themselves into a pattern approximating a 5-pointed star. These pentagonal planetary patterns, known to astrologers as Grand Quintiles, signify two linked opportunities to attune to the Fifth Harmonic, and thereby, I feel, to attune to the emerging frequencies of the World of the Fifth Sun.

Mother Earth is definitely feeling something!

12. I've been to this volcano
in 1989.

It's fascinating because there are two vocanos side by side. One has ice and snow on it's summit and one had steam and smoke coming out. They call them Los volcanos del fuego y hielo (the volcanos of fire and ice) hence the "fire" volcano name.

An old girl friend and I drove there out a very long dirt track in my '75 chevy luv truck. They are located in Colima about an hour from the coast and just North of the state of Michoacan.

Unfortunately it's pretty cloudy there right now so you can't really see much.
