Trucker Details Vote Machine Delivery Woes
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/ap/20041002/ap_on_re_us/louisiana_election_troubles

NEW ORLEANS - A driver who delivered voting machines for the city's primary election described a litany of logistical problems Friday, including dropping off machines in empty, unlocked buildings and handing them over to unauthorized people who refused to sign for them.

Driver Paul Washington spoke before members of a joint legislative government affairs committee investigating the Sept. 18 election, when voting machines showed up late to 53 city polling places, possibly disenfranchising thousands of voters and spawning several lawsuits.

Lawmakers listening to Washington were annoyed and amazed that security for the voting machines was so weak.

"These are not soda pop machines. These are voting machines and they have to be protected," said Democratic state Sen. Charles Jones, chairman of the committee.

1. The election official couldn't even testify- she's already in court!
snip>
Butler did not testify Friday because she was in court, where lawsuits challenging the election were being heard.

At one point a few months ago, it looked like LA could conceivably be in play. That is one state where the no-good-niks might have gone hard to work.

3. contradicting stories
Edited on Fri Oct-01-04 08:54 PM by oscar111
make this interesting.

i believe the trucker. ch 4 news ..or was it six... said something about the polling sites being machineless, but nontheless open and staffed, showing purported videos of lonely staff at tables in vacant rooms.

Interesting conflicting stories.

I believe the trucker, in light of registrar Keller not showing up for Council hearings on a new scandal, .. a scandal about no voter cards sent to recently registered voters,... i believe the peon, the trucker. Keller said he was busy, too busy to appear at the city council hearings on the new scandal. Disgusting.

Thank god for half-good media.

5. HOW CAN WE GET THESE MACHINES UNDER CONTROL
Before the election we have to be able to get this situation
under control and corrected. I'm so sick of Georgie Porgie
trying to promote democracy everywhere in the world for his
own touted benefit, yet our system is so faulty and unsecure
are we ever going to be able to trust the results of OUR ELECTIONS
AGAIN?

7. In the words of Andy Stephenson, "Pen, paper.....
......and a day off to count the votes". :toast:

If every precinct were responsible for counting their own votes and then posting the results for all to see there would be no need for machines or the constant storage and security costs that go with them. :)

:kick: Paper ballots are the currency of democracy, don't let anyone short change you!:kick:
