L.A. Official Not Authorized to Carry Gun (LAPD anti-terrorism chief)
LOS ANGELES -- The police department's anti-terrorism chief was not authorized to carry the type of handgun that airport authorities seized during a routine search of his baggage last month, police said.

John Miller, an ABC-TV reporter before he was hired for the security job, was off-duty and traveling to New York to tape a farewell message for Barbara Walters, his retiring former "20/20" co-host, when officials discovered a .38-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun in his bag.

Miller told officials he forgot the gun was in his bag and he was allowed to continue to New York without the weapon. But police said Friday that Miller was not authorized to carry the Smith & Wesson because of a paperwork error.

2. He can- it's a paper work glitch but that's not why he was stopped
Like an idiot, he tried to take a gun on a plane without telling anyone. One would hope that someone in his position might familiarize himself with firearm regulations.

What strikes me even more in this story, is that the most qualified person that LA could find to head anti-terrorism was a TV reporter.
