Pres. Debate sparks jump in Voter Registration (Santa Clarita Signal)
Edited on Sat Oct-02-04 06:28 PM by henslee
(Here's a snip and if you click link, vote in poll!)

Santa Clarita Valley residents flocked to voter registration tables in larger-than-usual numbers Friday following the previous night’s presidential debate.

Republicans and Democrats set up tables on either side of the Valencia Town Center, where they tried to tap into the flood of political interest.

About 3 p.m., the Democratic Alliance for Action celebrated what they said was their 2,004th registered Democrat this year — a Victoria’s Secret employee whom they showered with gifts, including a flatulating George W. Bush doll and a stuffed Eeyore, the donkey.

Surge in voter registration
October 2, 2004 Indianapolis, IN -
<snip>
More than 580,000 people are registered now and it's growing hourly.
Prewitt has worked in the Voter Registration office for 28 years. Her first presidential election was 1976. She says this is by far the most interest she's seen in voting.

Suspicious voter registrations in Michigan
Record number of Michiganders register; some forms look fraudulent.

By KATHY BARKS HOFFMAN
Associated Press Writer
<snip>
Land said nearly 7 million Michigan residents have registered to vote so far, already beating the record set in 2000, when 6,859,332 people registered. The draw this year, as in 2000, is a close and contentious presidential race that has political parties and advocacy groups signing up new voters to try and help their candidates.

Crunch time for voter registration
By MELISSA MILEWSKI
The Intelligencer Pa.
<snip>
Presidential election years are always busier than other years but officials say they are definitely working harder than they did in 2000 when George W. Bush faced off against Al Gore.
Montgomery County director of voter services Joe Passarella said his office has been inundated with new registrations and other paperwork. As of last week, the county had 28,575 new registrations and about 40,000 change-of-address requests since May 1. The county has a "few thousand in backlog."

"Four years ago it was busy, too," Passarella said. "It just seems really busy. There just seems to be a lot more voter (registration) drives.

"I have even gotten messages at home from people trying to get me to register to vote."
He is, as you might expect, already registered.

7. It's the Santa Clarita (not Clara) Signal
It's a suburban area 40 miles north of Los Angeles. It has been notoriously Republican. I have lived here 3 years and maybe it's starting to even out as the population has exploded.

11. Very Republican
I teach there; students were coming in the day after the debate talking about how much they hated Kerry, how disgusting he was.

The school paper gushed over Arnold when he was running; ran editorial after editorial bitching about that horrible car tax that Grey Davis brought upon us.

Of course, now their fees have gone up again (gee, folks, didn't you know that money for Community Colleges comes from those horrible TAXES that people pay?) they've been complaining about that too.
