28 People Arrested Outside White House
Protests Coincide With World Bank, IMF Meetings

POSTED: 8:09 pm EDT October 2, 2004
UPDATED: 8:38 pm EDT October 2, 2004

WASHINGTON -- Twenty-eight people were arrested near the White House Saturday during a protest of the Iraq war.

About 300 people gathered between the White House and Washington Monument.

U.S. Park Police said they arrested those who illegally crossed a barrier between the White House and the protest.

The 28 people who were arrested were trying to deliver a cardboard box to the White House. The box contained the names of people killed in the Iraq war.

The protesters had marched from Arlington National Cemetery. Many were family members of soldiers in Iraq.

12. What was it that Bush said in the debate, "We can't send mixed....
...messages to the enemy". I don't see a single person from the administration or from the republican side of the House or Senate who is their with the families showing their compassion for their grief.

9. Free speech zones
One fellow elsewhere says:

"Wherever I am standing is a free speech zone.

Same for everybody else!"

The way they have it set up now, some little barbed wire or fenced area is a free speech zone, which means that the whole rest of a town or city isn't.

Last time I read it, the First Amendment did not say:

If you disagree with the President, you may disagree peacefully as long as you do it inside a barbed wire or other fencing, away from any of the people you're protesting to. Until we grow tired of you, at which time we will fire rubber bullets at you and mace you, unless we arrest you.
