DEM FLASHED 'WRITE' STUFF AT DEBATE.
Edited on Mon Oct-04-04 05:12 AM by pacoyogi
The New York Post has an article, claiming that they reviewed Fox New's feed...It was a pen, after all.

What they are not mentioning is that if you look at the feed provided by the link below, Bush is clearly seen unfolding something........

http://www.nypost.com/news/nationalnews/31273.htm

Many blogs offered links to the "Pocket-gate" footage. One, INDC Journal, even posted frame-by-frame stills purporting to show Kerry pulling out a notecard and placing it onto the podium.

But the mystery was solved when The Post reviewed a Fox News Channel feed from Thursday's debate: Kerry pulled out . . . a black pen.

Kerry campaign spokesman David Wade remained angry at the bloggers' guilt-by-insinuation.

"The right-wing attack machine will say anything to steal a debate do-over," he said. "We plead guilty to having a pen."

The Bush campaign did not comment.

Take a look at the footage of Bush unfolding something...warning, Repuke site....

(well, I'm going to mention it) What was that THING Bush had stuffed up under his suit coat running up his spine? I'm guessing some sort of prosthetic to keep the spineless moron from collapsing into a pile of slush on the floor. I'm surprised some curious journalist (there has to be ONE left in this country, doesn't there?) hasn't asked that question.

7. Thats all they got REALLY?? PLEASE let them make an issue out of it!
I suppose they needed SOMETHING to give to the news whores and Right wing Radio to feed to the bummed out Bush voters who KNOW that bush got beat like a drum. But gezze talk about reaching..When the same people who watched the debate saw Bush with some notes as well. I suppose those were just pointers huh? And i really think Bush had an earpiece getting answers..That near 5 second blinkfest after a question proved that to me. But thats all they got? that Kerry had NOTES? HA! HA!

13. Great Kerry campaign response
The right-wing attack machine will say anything to steal a debate do-over. We plead guilty to having a pen.

Points out the tactic, then holds it up for ridicule.

The same guy, David Wade, similarly had a great response to the fake Carl Cameron story: America would be stronger if only George Bush could admit his mistakes as easily.

15. Their favorite tactic
is to accuse the Democrats of the very things they do themselves.
Benjamin Ginsberg, after resigning as a campaign legal advisor, talked about the "Kerry Smear Machine." They LIE and call us LIARS. They attack the wrong country, a country where Al Qaeda was NOT active, causing terrorists to flood in, and say that OUR side can't be trusted to protect America.

Hey, Republican idiots, JOHN KERRY DOESN'T NEED A CHEAT SHEET! He is intelligent and has a masterful command of the facts. That is a foreign concept to them.

21. Here is what I think happened.
Kerry probably took a bright shiny object out of his pocket which he then showed to Bush. At first I thought it might have been a brand new penny or a piece of tinfoil but now it appears to be a shiny pen. A bright shiny object like that would distract Bush and ordinarily entertain him for hours. Rove and Cheney probably give him a similar reward when he performs as instructed. Bush's frustration and confusion at the debate was due to the fact that he was not given the bright shiny object even though he performed the conditioned response. His reference to "hard work" probably was a way of saying that he had performed as instructed and thus had earned the bright shiny object.

This seems like the most likely explanation.

51. This explains Kerry's pocket pen...
The pen contained a tiny radio signal jammer set at precisely the frequency that Democratic agents recommended based on their espionage.

This is why Kerry smiled so gleefully as he used his pen to "take notes". Dumbyass never had a chance to cheat! No fair!

Ok, so my imagination's in hyperdrive; but it'd make a great Bond movie!

45. Not only do I remember it, I have it on tape!
I just re-played my C-SPAN recording. The instant Kerry leaves the stage, a man walks quickly to Bush's podium, snatches up what appears to be a booklet or a stack of loose papers, and exits the opposite side of the set. It happens 1 minute 20 seconds after Lehrer's comments to close the debate, for those who want to see it for themselves.

43. Well, they were allowed to take notes.
Edited on Mon Oct-04-04 02:01 PM by RememberTheCoup
Technically, any writing instruments or blank paper to write on were supposed to be handed over to debate officials who would check them out and place them on the candidate's podium before the debate. I can see this being more important for the paper than the pen, although strictly speaking Kerry should not have taken his pen out. It may be that the debate authorities looked over Kerry's pen ahead of time and then just handed it back to him. I imagine these things often deviate slightly from the written "script".

Kerry very openly took notes during the debate when Bush was speaking. That was allowed by the rules. I didn't see Bush taking any notes, but it's possible he did so off camera. So a page full of writing in front of Bush does not necessarily indicate that he cheated. To prove that, you would need to show that the paper contained writing before Bush had a chance to write anything. Or you would have to show Bush NOT taking any notes up to the point where the page full of notes was shown. I think this can be done by a committed person who has access to a copy of the debate video. CNN showed a split screen the entire time, correct?

EDIT: Also, obviously if Bush's notes were typewritten or in someone else's handwriting, that too would prove that Bush cheated. Hope some of you tech-savvy DUers keep working on getting the best blow-up images you can.

53. Can you provide video here?
The candidates were allowed to take notes, they just weren't allowed to bring in pre-written notes. We should focus on trying to prove that Bush had pre-written notes (if he did). Of course, all pens and blank paper were supposed to have been inspected and placed on the podiums ahead of time. They may have been inspected and erroneously given back to the candidate(s). Or, they might never have been inspected. We wouldn't be able to tell that from the video. It would require interviewing the people involved.

56. But how do we know it wasn't the debate officials who "screwed up"?
First, I still can't make much out in the video, but if Fox News is vouching for Kerry, why would you doubt it? They don't exactly have a bias for Kerry. As I said, it's possible one or both candidates submitted their note taking materials to debate officials who checked them over and erroneously handed them back to the candidates. I do think there might be something to this story, but it will take some resourceful and tech-savvy DUer to investigate the video and find something substantive.
