Robertson: If Bush 'touches' Jerusalem, we'll form 3rd party
http://www.haaretzdaily.com/hasen/spages/484861.html

<snip>

"Influential American evangelist Pat Robertson said Monday that Evangelical Christians feel so deeply about Jerusalem, that if President George W. Bush were to "touch" Jerusalem, Evangelicals would abandon their traditional Republican leanings and form a third party.

"The President has backed away from but if he were to touch Jerusalem, he'd lose all evangelical support," Robertson said. "Evangelicals would form a third party" because, though people "don't know about" Gaza, Jerusalem is an entirely different matter."

<snip>

"In a gathering of more than 4,000 pilgrims at a Jerusalem convention center Sunday, Robertson warned that some Muslims were trying to foil "God's plan" to let Israel hold on to its lands. The number of pilgrims was about 25 percent higher than the past three years, according to organizers with the International Christian Embassy

"I see the rise of Islam to destroy Israel and take the land from the Jews and give East Jerusalem to Yasser Arafat. I see that as Satan's plan to prevent the return of Jesus Christ the Lord," said Robertson, a Christian broadcaster."

101. This is why the US needs to unlink the chains of Israel and RW funddies
from its foreign and domestic policies. Pat Robertson would not turn over the security of the US to the UN but he would hand it to Israel.

14. I posted earlier about the Pentecostals working for Bush.....
They love Brother Ashcroft, son of a pentecostal pastor.....

Rev. Irwin Baxter of Richmond, Indiana is traveling all over the nation this fall preaching that the Democrats are "in league with Satan" and that Armageddon is coming soon. If Jesus won't "fast forward" events, then maybe it is the responsibility of the religious right to force God's hand, and push for the wars which will bring about the Rapture and the "endtime".

"...maybe it is the responsibility of the religious right to force God's hand..."?

What ever happened to "GAWD is the same, yesterday, today, and tomorrow", "GAWD is NOT Mocked", and all that other shit about how Old Whiskas never changes his mind?

If there was a God, I'd think he'd be inclined, given his recorded lack of ANY sense of humour, to squash Baxter like a bug, slowly, and in front of his (Baxter's) followers...

Think about it, all those dopes claiming they speak for God are now beginning to eat each other.

Get some beer and popcorn, this is gonna be good.

Edit: Then when the dust clears, we get the IRS to go after the Political Organizations claiming tax free status as religious organizations and the 'beast' consumes what is left of their sorry butts.

Irwin Baxter is a nut, one who, some people say, to use a coined phrase, that likes little boys to much.... off of the topic, I keep waiting for this rapture business. I think the world would be a much better place without fundies of any kind, so when the rapture happens lets co-ordinate it with Allah and the Jewish god of no name oh and don't forget the Hindu fundies too, just take them all and let them battle it out in Rapture land. I think thats something most of us could get behind.

case. I saw it on a crawl on CNN this afternoon while watching Mt. St. Helens. So Judge Moore is still out of a job, and rightly so.

Besides, why do the right-wing Christians make such a big deal about the 10 Commandments? God didn't wait a few centuries to give them to the Christians. He gave them to THE JEWS!

Speaking of graven images, I can think of one that's worshiped by the "haves and have mores". It's those little pieces of paper that have "E Pluribus Unum" on them.

Rapture their butts outta here NOW.The world would be better off without fundies of any religion. Anyone who sez I got to be like what they are or else suffer is a arrogant assuming little dictator.I don't care if their using god to cover for a bully/control issue.
Besides Evangelicals are the worst sort of moral relativists because they pretend to be moral absolutists.Every time they bring up hell they are advocating torture for those people who are different/disagree with their religion. Fundies can rationalize eternal torture happening to their family members, friends if it's God's sanctioned torture it must be a good reason to torture someone forever. These fundies are barbaric and have lost all moral authority IMHO, they haven't figured out on their own, that torture of living beings is wrong, and reprehensible, morally.
They are not absolute on this, because they can justify hell, Old Testament brutalities, washed in blood, onward Christian soldiers etc.

Kind of putting oneself ABOVE God? Of course, the Fundies have never understood the praying in a closet bit, either, leading up to the Lord's Prayer in Matthew, but then they seem to PICK and CHOOSE the parts of the Bible that already make a fit with their sick little, bigoted, hateful minds. Just keep praying loudly over the loudspeakers at high school football games and NASCAR races.

31. GOP Civil Church of Mammon and the Blonde Jesus
I wish they'd form a third party -- that way, the fundies AND the GOP would have no power.

Falwell's dumb ass said last week that the evangelicals "OWN" the GOP.

What if they've backed themselves into a horrible position.

We all know that the corpo-fascists are just manipulating conservative Christians (seeing as they're the most gullible and delusional of all people not officially diagnosed with a mental disorder) -- and that even though they give them piecemeal, they will never be able to ban abortion, amend the constitution to ban gay marriage, put mandatory prayer in school, etc.

I think maybe it started out that way, but when the "GOD freepers" started getting fanatical, and found themselves in real positions of power within the GOP, they really have some ideas about holding the top leadership -- which is just a bunch of warmongers and corpo-fascists -- to their word: the promises they made the religious right, in return for support.

Corpo-fascists don't really want a Biblical society, I think -- prurience, decadence, instant gratification and conscience-less whim are the cornerstones of capitalism.

I think the GOP has backed their dumb asses into a corner. Right now, they still enjoy the support of "Todd the Maxim-reading frat boy," because he thinks it makes him look rich to be a Republican -- but wait until he finds out the fundies want to stone him.

By the way -- I've always thought it curious -- the "non politically correct," beer-swilling Republican who thinks he has the right to verbally objectify women, and is indignant about it -- and sees the LEFT as some kind of PC Puritainical movement, aligned closely with the REAL puritains, that would burn his Maxim, rip the Jenny McCarthy posters off his wall, and make him have 27 kids with his fat wife that he married at age 15.

Funny alliance. How long do you think this could last, before some of these people "get wise?"

35. Don't underestimate the CR+GOP
The Christian Right does have a large piece of the GOP pie right now. They are married and in bed. A divorce would be devastating to both.

Why wouldn't the Corpo-fascists want a biblical society? The Mosaic Law would give complete control over the population without due process. It would allow for pure Fascism to take hold under the guise of religion.

The ability to maintain a facade is what makes it work well. That kind of morality is the typical Elitist type. You cover up your dirt and enjoy the taboos that the rest of the people are persecuted for. Its a potential, ultimate power rush.

False assumptions about the extreme, fanatical power base of Dominionists in the GOP camps are exactly what have given them the large momentum they currently have in this country. If people do not pay attention, it will only grease their wheels even more.

No matter what you estimate their average intelligence to be, they are organized, financed, loyal, and have inserted themselves into any office they could, from the local level on up.

A quote from Theocracy Watch:

"The drive for "dominion" is underestimated by the media and political analysts. Karl Rove estimates the number of people from the religious right who voted for Bush in 2000 to be about 15 million, and he talked about raising that number to 19 million. With the religious right's passion to gain control of the federal court system and its ability to send followers to the polls by the busload, Rove's goal could be modest."

You see Revelations says that certain things must occur before Jesus can return (he is somehow limited by events - omnipotent?), and what these evil Satanists are trying to do is make things here on Earth different than what Jesus needs to come back; therefore, they prevent Jesus from returning. If things don't turn out like Revelations says, then Jesus can't return? What kind of religion is this? I am sorry if this offends true believers, but this is just stupid. Instead of Jesus being in command of events, he is the slave of events? This is idiocy...

64. True, this is more like "magical thinking" than religious thought
If all the parts of the potion are mixed together in the right order, in the right proportions, and with the right incantations the desired effect must come about. They seem to want to "conjure up" the creator of the universe, rather than let said creator exercise free will.

106. St. John of Patmos may enjoyed eating "magic" mushrooms.
The Isle of Patmos where St. John lived (probably not the same John or Johns found elsewhere in the Bible) has caves where psilocybin mushrooms grow in caves where sheep and goats go to get out of the weather and CRAP. Those shrooms grow best in feces!

107. Orlando got hit 3 times and Pat once said God hates Disney's Gay Day
Pat mentioned Disney's allowing gays at Disney World as a reason Orlando was a near hit a few years back. I guess Disney won't listen. However, "Gay Day" is not Disney's doing, but it is just ONE day out of the year when gays choose to visit the park in great numbers. Christians can safely bring their children the other 364 days of the year.

Robertson prayed Hurricane Gloria away from his Virgina Beach media headquarters and his Regents University, only to have God take the storm to New England, kill six people there and do a lot of damage.

What theological interest could the status of Jerusalem have for modern Christians? I can understand if some ultra-religious Jews, those who expect the messiah to come soon, having an interest in it, but what's the significance of the place for a second coming of Christ?

Hopefully, enough level-headed Republicans, (I know what you're going to say, so don't. I believe there has to be some level-headed Republicans somewhere. Maybe?), will stand up against the evangelical coup that's taken place in their party and kick these bastards out. I would think they'd be glad to have these people start their own party. National Union trying to rally American right against road map

National Union MK Yuri Stern is traveling to Washington early next week for meetings with the Christian right in an effort to rally support against the road map for a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Stern is scheduled to meet with two of the most vocal evangelists, Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson, as well as members of the Christian coalition.

The rightist MK is also planning talks with conservative members of Congress and Jewish American organizations, comprised of emigrants from the former Soviet Union, based in Cleveland, New York and Washington.

Stern told Haaretz that his party places on influencing the Christian organizations, "because this is the close environment, the ideological milieu of President Bush."

An unholy alliance with the Christian right

The annual conference of the powerful pro-Israel AIPAC lobby last week disproved the conspiracy theory that claimed the Jews persuaded President Bush to conquer Iraq. According to the same theory, the lobby is now pressing him not to present the road map to put an end to the Israeli occupation of the territories.

On the first day of the AIPAC convention, a man named Gary Bauer took the podium. He reminded the cheering thousands that God gave the Land of Israel to the Jewish people and, therefore, there is an absolute ban on giving it to another people. Bauer is not a member of the National Religious Party, nor of the Likud central committee. He's not even Jewish. He is a leading preacher from the Christian right in America, one of those who believe the Jews are The Chosen People and one day will even choose the right messiah. Bauer is a leading spokesman for arch-conservative policies, including a total ban on all abortions and favoring government funding for religious schools.

These are the people generating the spiritual energy fueling George Bush's war on global terrorism. Evangelist Christians from South Carolina paid for the huge billboard on the Ayalon Highway declaring "There's no land for peace." TV evangelist Pat Robertson last week reprimanded Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom, saying "Who do you think you are, handing Jerusalem over to Arafat?"

With Christian friends like these close to the president's ear, the right-wing government in Israel does not need Jewish friends to rebuff political initiatives like the road map. But the Jewish activists are not giving up. The religious sources of the values that drive the Christian right are not preventing some Jewish organizations from turning them into a natural ally. Among those organizations are some that only a decade ago were thriving by exposing the anti-Semitic sloganeering in the sermons of some of their newfound friends.

62. See.. Bush is totally insane.. and he's running the "crusade"...
It all makes sense. The PNAC guys want power and oil control, AND they realize that it's easy to manipulate loonies like Bush and Ashcroft by letting them believe it's about their Crusade, when they declare war on the Muslims. As long as Bush believes he's helping Daddy with the oil and military spending, and he thinks he's furthering his wingnut Christian beliefs by returning the Holy Land to the Jews so Jesus can come back, then he's a happy little moron. OH, and he's assuring votes from the other evangelical crusaders by his war on Muslims...

Actually, I really waver between thinking Bush is completely insane, and beliving that he's just uneducated and evil.. and is pretending all the religious stuff just to further his families fortunes. All I know is that it's no secret that he's consistently anti-muslim, and anti-arab.

You know, I really wish Robertson would read the Bible he's always carrying around and waving. I will admit that it has been many years since I last did, but as I recall Jesus said something in response to a question from his disciples about no man, not even he, the Son of God, knew the day or hour of His return, and that only God the Father knew.

72. Not to mention..
that it says: "the merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her (Babylon) for no one will buy their merchandise anymore". I do believe that the coming of the Apocalypse would put Mr. Robertson out of business.

The preface to the book of the Apocalypse of my Bible, the New Catholic version, refers to the words of the Apocalypse as symbolic, with 'Jerusalem' standing as the 'type of the good cause' and 'Babylon' as the 'type of the evil and this is the world power'.

71. The "Christian Embassy" has always been bad news
Edited on Mon Oct-04-04 01:43 PM by starroute
I haven't checked it out in detail, but the name keeps coming up in connection with both the most extreme end-time Christians and the most radical Zionists.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_Zionism

Christian Zionism is the belief among some denominations of Protestant Christians, mainly in the United States, that the return of the Jews to the Holy Land, through the estabishment of the State of Israel in 1948, is in accordance with Biblical prophecy, and is a necessary precondition for the return of Jesus to reign on Earth.

<snip>

The government of Israel has given official encouragement to Christian Zionism, allowing the establishment in 1980 of an "International Christian Embassy" in Jerusalem. The main function of the embassy is to enlist worldwide Christian support for Israel and to defend Israeli actions and policies before Christian opinion. The embassy has raised funds to help finance Jewish immigration to Israel from the former Soviet Union, and has assisted Zionist groups in establishing Jewish settlements in the West Bank Palestinian territory.

http://www.palestinefacts.org/pf_faq_palestine_christian_zionists.php

Today, tens of millions of Protestant Christians in the United States and more around the world support Israel with an uncritical fervor, exceeding even Jewish support. The Israeli government has recognized the significance of this support since the 1970s, and has courted these Christians for a generation.

In 1980, Christian supporters of Israel established the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem. The Embassy opened after the international community condemned Israel for declaring united Jerusalem the "eternal and indivisible capital" of the reborn Jewish state. As thirteen nations moved their embassies from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv due to a threatened Arab oil embargo, 1400 Christians from 40 countries decided to open their own Embassy in Jerusalem.

http://www.rense.com/general41/aagi.htm

In 1980, the Israel government, then headed by Menachem Begin, helped the evangelicals establish the so-called "International Christian Embassy in Jerusalem."

The main function of the embassy is to enlist worldwide Christian support for Israel and defend Israeli actions and policies, including Israel's harsh treatment of the Palestinians.

In recent years, the embassy raised millions of dollars to help in the financing of the airlifting of close to a million Jewish and (ostensibly Jewish) immigrants from the former Soviet Union.

More recently, the embassy in co-ordination with Christian Zionist groups in Europe and North America have been planning with militant Jewish groups in the West Bank to take over Arab homes and property, especially in the vicinity of the Aqsa Mosque.

Jews don't believe in the Christian rapture and so it looks like a mutual "using" operation going....Christians think they will convert Jews to Jesus and Jews think the Christian fools can help gain them all of the lands promised by God to Abraham and his Jewish seed, from the Euphrates River in Iraq to the Nile in Egypt and everything in between, including the rich oil lands of Saudi Arabia.

Of course Abraham supposedly started the Arab race with his other son, Ishmael, but then that boy was a bastard.
