Polish troops to quit Iraq by end 2005: Kwasniewski
Edited on Mon Oct-04-04 09:13 AM by russian33
PARIS (AFP) - Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski said after talks in Paris that Warsaw wants to withdraw all its 2,500 troops from Iraq (news - web sites) during the course of next year.

He said no firm date to complete the withdrawal had been decided yet, but that Poland hoped "to finish our mission at the end of 2005."

Poland is the fourth largest troop contributor to the US-led coalition in Iraq, but there is strong popular opposition at home to the deployment.

4. Wow, 2500 troops. That's worth mentioning in a debate.
Don't forget the 5 Latvians!

5. See, once again Smirky lies.
...but there is strong popular opposition at home to the deployment.

Britain, Poland, hell, NONE of the citizens of any of our so-called coalition allies wanted to go into this war. Obviously the leaders were bribed in some way and they went against their own people's wishes. I hope to hell Blair, Kwasniewski and any other of these so-called leaders get their asses handed to them in their next election. Like Aznar.

6. Poland isn't the fourth largest troop contributor to the US-led coalition
if you count the mercenary army, I'd wager. Those particular troops will never leave. They've found themselves a very lucrative home and a well which will never run dry.

7. Boy, that Kerry. Always pissing off our allies by forgetting to mention
them in his stump speeches. At least the ones we have left after Chuimp set fire to our foreign policy.

8. Bwa-ha-ha!
Saw this coming -- nobody in Poland supports their membership in the so-called 'coalition' anymore, not even the Polish equivalent of neocons. Even the people who wanted it in the first place have admitted to feeling betrayed by how cocked-up it is.

Looks like Poland has decided to forget Poland!
