Republicans Now Facing New Flip-Flop Accusations - GANNETT
<snip>

WASHINGTON -- Though President Bush and other Republicans promise they can keep America safer than their Democratic opponents, some of the GOP's top Senate candidates are on record opposing a commission that has proposed major intelligence changes to prevent another terrorist attack.

The Senate plans to pass legislation based on the Sept. 11 commission's proposals as early as this week. The bill would overhaul intelligence gathering and give central control to a new national intelligence director.

But from South Dakota to North Carolina, some of the GOP's top prospects voted against setting up the 9/11 panel when they were House members in 2002. Already, Democrat Erskine Bowles has challenged Rep. Richard Burr in North Carolina on the issue, during an exchange over security in a debate last week.

While Democrats say a vote against creating the commission raises questions about Republican commitment to security, political analysts doubt the issue will hurt GOP candidates since all of them now say the commission did valuable work.

2. Keep trying to hit them on their flip-flops, but don't know if it sticks?!
It's hard to tell what matters to people anymore in this race.
