One US soldier killed, two wounded in Iraq roadside blast

BAGHDAD, Oct 5 (AFP) - One US soldier was killed and two others injured when a roadside bomb targeted their convoy as it was driving near Baghdad overnight, the military said in a statement on Tuesday.

"One... soldier is dead and two are injured as the result of an improvised explosive device attack on their convoy near Baghdad around 11:30 pm (2030 GMT) October 4," the army statement said.

The wounded soldiers were taken to a military hospital in the Iraqi capital.

Based on the latest Pentagon figures, the death brings to 1,056 the number of US troops killed in Iraq since last year's invasion.

4. One dead or two?

I caught a report this evening (may have been Lou Dobbs; I was channel surfing) that stated TWO soldiers had died in an attack which happened on Oct 4. Perhaps one of the wounded soldiers died? Or was it a separate attack?
