Oil Sets Record on U.S. Supply Outage (oil at $51.00 per barrell)
LONDON (Reuters) - Oil prices hit a new record near $51 a barrel on Tuesday as a prolonged U.S. production outage following Hurricane Ivan attracted fresh speculative buying.

U.S. light crude set a high of $50.91 a barrel in electronic dealing before easing to stand up 77 cents at $50.68 ahead of pit trade.

London Brent moved to a record $47.15 a barrel and by 1345 GMT (9:45 a.m. EDT) was up 67 cents at $46.86 a barrel.

Supply anxiety is building ahead of the northern hemisphere winter, when demand for heating oil surges. Inventories of crude and distillates in the world's top energy user, the United States, are running as much as 4 percent below last year.

1. ouch...
I think oil was around $30 a barrel when Clinton left office. The oil giants have made record profits this year. What is wrong with this picutre? Why are people putting up with allowing the oil companies to rob them blind?

4. Er...don't laugh
It might just happen.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5570015/site/newsweek/

"Days after 9/11, a senior Pentagon official lamented the lack of good targets in Afghanistan and proposed instead U.S. military attacks in South America or Southeast Asia as "a surprise to the terrorists," according to a footnote in the recent 9/11 Commission Report. The unsigned top-secret memo, which the panel's report said appears to have been written by Defense Under Secretary Douglas Feith, is one of several Pentagon documents uncovered by the commission which advance unorthodox ideas for the war on terror"

7. Yes, and yet Exxon-Mobil stock has soared to $48
Halliburton has soared from $21 on the day of the Invasion to $34 now

We get to pay for the Oil War AND for sky-high gasoline prices too.

Can you say, BushMerika?

8. yeah, curious, isn't it?
wait till nov. 3rd. either way, gas goes through the roof. they're 'taking a bath' by only reaping obscene profits on the election run-up. wouldn't want to 'influence' voters.

18. Artificial scarcity
What worked for diamonds will work for oil ..then it will work for water and if they could charge for air it would work there as well...

Artificial scarcity will pave the golden road to Globalism , worldwide tyranny , and ultimately enslavement for all but the controllers...

what you are witnessing is just a training excersise , to condition the world for things to come ...and the world is buying it....Hook, line and sinker....

10. no matter what happens in Nov. oil will continue to stay high

and keep going higher. (I'm not considering small dips in prices) How can it not?

supplies will be less and less not more and more.

weather and war whack away at supplies. the weather will not get better. It will get worse. War is not stopping, it's getting worse. So how can the price of gas go down?
