Cherie begins £90,000 American lecture tour to help pay the mortgage

Cherie Blair will begin paying off the Blairs' £3m mortgage today with the start of her money-spinning lecture tour of America at a ladies' luncheon in Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.

The Prime Minister's wife, who is expected to earn £90,000 for three speaking engagements in the United States, is sharing the billing at an annual forum for insurance agents with Paul Bremer, the US ambassador who headed the provisional government in Iraq, and the former Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev.

As the UK's "First Lady", Mrs Blair has proved to be big box office after hiring a leading East Coast agency for celebrity speakers. She is replacing the actress Lauren Bacall who pulled out of the lunch for the Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers conference.

Politicians at Westminster were bemused by her decision to tour America, but reports that the Blairs are buying a £3.6m town house in Connaught Square may explain her cashing in on the speaking circuit.

Cherie Blair who is on a lecture tour of America has warned young executives of the risks of being a workaholic.

According to the Sun, the British Prime Minister's wife gave a speech to insurance executives, days after her husband had a heart operation.

"Modern life brings more stress and finding the right balance between working and the rest of our lives, in particularly our family lives, has to be the aim," Cherie was quoted as saying.

"I have a good job and can afford good childcare which comes in handy, like when my husband went into hospital on Friday," she added. (ANI)

16. I studied law at the LSE at the same time as Cherie. When Maxwell

was investigated and fined for his running of the Pergamon Press there was a High Court law suit (1973-4) that traced all his bank accounts, investments, assets etc. He admitted in court to having obtained funds fraudulently that belonged to other shareholders, and that he then diverted some of these funds to pay into a trust fund for Cherie's education. Something like £10,000 per annum to cover tuition, subsitence payments, eudcational research, travel costs etc.

This was widely reported in the UK press at the time.

Other contemporaries at the LSE remember she was twice suspended over these allegations because she had forged bank account signatures to obtain money during the time when Pergamon Press assets were frozen during the law suit.

Also of interest is her previous financial arrangements with this man:

Tory Party Councillor John Whelan, councillor at Lambeth Borough Council.

Cherie has financial ties to this man who acted as Margaret Thatcher's personal link man with the Real IRA after the Brighton Bombing of the Grand Hotel during the 1984 Tory Party cnference.

Some of these financial links came out when Whelan was arrested and charged with money laundering between known Real IRA London operatives and convicted fraudsters in Dubai working for BCCI offshore branches.

Briefly, Blair's 1998 Good Friday Agreement wiped the slate clean for many convicted money launderers in the IRA, Provisional IRA, Continuity IRA and the Real IRA. It also attempted to erase all their known links to organised crime in Asia, in particular their associations with arms and drug dealers, sex rings running paedophile brothels in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Macao, Taiwan and a few other South Asian states.

Some of the intelligence files go back to the mid-1980s and show the links to organised crime and global terrorism. A number of the files containing this data have, however, been subpoenaed by the plaintiffs of the BCCI London class action which started in January this year.

It took over 10 years of bitter, bloody fighting to make MI5 and MI6 hand over the intelligence files because both Tory and Labour politicians kept challenging the right to this data on the grounds it would harm national security. However, the High Dourt, Court of Appeal and the House of Lords all ruled that the only damage these files could do would be to the personal repuations of politicians and not national security.

In addition to this, other intelligence files have been subpoenaed from the security/intelligence/defense agencies in the UK sowing that Thatcher used MI6 double agents (mainly Mossad and KGB) to collude with known terrorists and their financial backers in perpetrating acts of terror attributed to various known terrorist organisations, eg ETA, Bader Meinhof, Red Brigade, Hamas, PLFP etc. And that she acted in collusion with Bush1 when he was VP to Reagan.

That is why the London BCCI lawsuit is so important: never before have the actual security/intelligence files been made available for scrutiny in the public domain.
