Al-Qaeda remarks 'misunderstood': Rumsfeld
Edited on Tue Oct-05-04 12:53 PM by JohnnyCougar
Bwwwahahahahaha....Rumsfeld flip-flops right before the VP debate. I hope Edwards throws this back in Cheney's face!!!

WASHINGTON - U.S. Defence Secretary Don ald Rumsfeld said he was "misunderstood" when he claimed Monday night that there was no "hard evidence" linking Saddam Hussein and al- Qaeda.

Speaking to the Council on Foreign Relations in New York, Rumsfeld said, "To my knowledge, I have not seen any strong, hard evidence that links the two."

But hours after his appearance, he issued a statement saying his comment "regrettably was misunderstood."

"I have acknowledged since September 2002 that there were ties between al-Qaeda and Iraq," Rumsfeld said in a statement on the Department of Defence website, posted hours after his appearance.

1. Such as...?
I could give a rat's ass WHAT Rumsfeld 'acknowledges'. What is the hard evidence there were ties between Hussein and Al Queda?

4. Rumsfeld was only repeating what his president said... (proof)
Transcript from the Whitehouse of a news conference on January 31, 2003:

THE PRIME MINISTER: Adam.

Q One question for you both. Do you believe that there is a link between Saddam Hussein, a direct link, and the men who attacked on September the 11th?

THE PRESIDENT: I can't make that claim.

THE PRIME MINISTER: That answers your question.

+++

So Bush, Blair and Rumsefeld all agree. Right before the debate, the question is, "Why does Cheney continue to contradict his president and his Secretary of Defense"?

8. Misunderstood, mis-spoke, mis-underestimated
Is there ANY other translation for "no "hard evidence" linking Saddam Hussein and al- Qaeda."? See, Donny didn't muddle his words enough. That's usually how he 'splains everything after opening his mouth. Similar to Pappageorge saying "we have to suppress the Detroit vote" and then writing a letter to The Detroit News complaining that he was "mis-understood". There is just no other way to translate.
