Ex-key aide to McCain gives support to Kerry
WASHINGTON - A man who until last week was one of Sen. John McCain's top aides is endorsing John Kerry for president, asserting that President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney have "waged an unprecedentedly cynical and divisive campaign."

Led by Kerry, Democrats now can seize the opportunity to reach out to disaffected moderate Republicans and independents to build "a new political coalition of national unity," Marshall Wittmann writes in the upcoming edition of Blueprint Magazine, published by the Democratic Leadership Council.

20. You mean like aide, like Senator?
I doubt very much McCain would turn around and support Kerry at this point.

25. NOT GONNA HAPPEN, NOT GONNA HAPPEN, NOT GONNA
HAPPEN!!!!! We have to get over this delusion about McCain. He is a staunch Republican, either in love with or somehow indebted to Bush.

Here is my favorite part:
Anyone who was involved in the 2000 McCain campaign, as I was, knows exactly who is responsible for the "Swift boat" slime attack on Senator Kerry -- in Bush World, all low roads lead to Rove.

7. The Bull Moose rises again. Great to hear this.
Once upon a time (early/mid 2001), Wittman's blog Bull Moose and Josh Marshall's Talking Points Memo were the sum of my daily political reading. Despite my disagreements with Wittman, I grew to respect him unlike any other conservative writer. I wrote about this on my own blog just now:

16. Thanks
I don't know how open my mind is, though, since I haven't been able to tolerate any other writers even remotely conservative. And it turns out the one I was able to tolerate is on our side.

22. Thanks for posting that link.
Very thought provoking article. He documents all the reasons true Republicans should reject this corrupt administration.

As a long ago Republican, I disagree with his NeoCon theories of spreading democracy around the world, however, I welcome his call for bipartisanship & moderation.

6. I'm just amazed that no matter how many people denounce *
it doesn't phase him. Last year like 500 scientists came out against him. How many ambassadors? How many former administration officials?

Nobody's listening.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr...

8. Best line in the story:
"But there is no remaining shred of doubt that another four years of a Bush presidency would have a toxic effect on American politics. If George W. Bush is re-elected, unlimited corporate power, cynicism and division will ride high in the saddle."

In 1999-2000, I had a lot of respect for McCain. After the last couple years, though, much of that is gone gone gone.

17. McCain will stick with Chimpy because
he wants to be president and he can't get the GOP nomination in 2008 if he endorses Kerry. (He can't get it anyway, but that's another story.)

24. If McCain jumps in the ring....
A - is there time to 'get him on the ballot as a Bull Moose'?

If McCain came on the ballot, would he bleed enough from the dems to cause W win? a la Perot with Clinton/Dole?

I suspect the dealine for getting on the ballots may have passed....

But mark my words...if the Pugs lose there will be a split in their party to get rid of the Christo-Fascisits and become a true conservative party...
