House votes to break up San Francisco based-9th Circuit appeals court
The Republican-led House voted Tuesday to break up the San Francisco-based 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, an action opponents said was motivated by conservatives' ire over some of the court's rulings.

Nine states are currently covered by the 9th Circuit, but the legislation would leave just California and Hawaii in a revamped lineup.

The proposal splits the seven other states into two new courts: one to handle appeals from Arizona, Idaho, Montana and Nevada; and the other to oversee Alaska, Oregon and Washington.

1. These fuckers will stop at nothing to take over the country
especially the courts. If Clinton and Dems tried this, they'd have been crucified.

2. more thuglican rigging of the benches
seriously, how these 'humans' can ever claim moral high ground, how they have ever remained respectible or credible is beyond me.

There should be checks and balances in place to stop these under-handed tactics, IMO.

4. There is check and balance in place . . .
. . . and it's called "the ballot box." Under Article III of the U.S. Constitution, the "judicial Power of the United States, shall be vest in one supreme Court, and in such inferior Courts as the Congress may from time to time ordain and establish."

Constitutionally, therefore, the structure of the federal court system is the prerogative and responsibility of Congress. If the people of this country don't like the way Congress chooses to structure that system, their recourse is to change their representatives.

5. And it has come to that
I hope the check and balance left to the people is accurately counted this November. We're toast if it is not.

11. Of course, which is why this is going nowhere
More political grandstanding from the fucks on the right. High time we got rid of all of them if you ask me, vote their asses out ASAP.

Or rather, let's just elect John Kerry so we can have someone to block all of this nonsense, anti-American legislation.

12. yes,
as stated in the article:

However, the measure, which passed by a vote of 205-194, was not expected to become law because of strong opposition in the Senate.

I was going to be depressed when I read that article. I obviously missed that part.

Thanks for posting a such 'cheerful' statement.

3. Republican corruption - its not just for the house anymore
First they gerrymandered the house; now they're gerrymandering the courts? Anyone ever hear of putting the good of the country first?

Hello? Checks and balances, anyone?

8. And if Kerry wins the election
Expect the GOP to block any judges that Kerry will want to appoint to these new courts.

10. Wow!...there's one I haven't thought of yet.
------California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, a Republican, and a majority of 9th Circuit judges say the split is unnecessary.------

Even the Pet Terminator claims to be against it. But I bet he doesn't know what this means.
