Meeting was not first for Cheney, Edwards
Edited on Tue Oct-05-04 11:35 PM by prankster
CLEVELAND - Vice President Dick Cheney (news - web sites) said Tuesday that the debate against Democratic Sen. John Edwards (news - web sites) marked the first time the two had met. In fact, the two had met twice previously.

"Now, in my capacity as vice president, I am the president of Senate, the presiding officer. I'm up in the Senate most Tuesdays when they're in session. The first time I ever met you was when you walked on the stage tonight," Cheney told Edwards during the debate.

In February 2001, the vice president thanked Edwards by name at a Senate prayer breakfast. Edwards aides also said the two met when the first-term North Carolina senator accompanied, Elizabeth Dole (news - web sites), to her swearing-in by Cheney in January 2003.

Rate it up! The press has picked up the lie and we need to press this issue hard! It may be a lie about a trivial matter, but the meme must be the dishonesty of the administration and this is perfect evidence!

Liar Liar pants on Fire!

Cheers,

Prankster

10. Cheney seemed very weary.
He didn't put forth much in defense of his administration. Appeared lackadaisical, lackluster and almost diffident. The memory question? Some people entering old age with medical problems do develope memory problems. Might be these facts contribute to his poor decision making along with his lifelong love of the BUCK.

17. It may be trivial, but it goes to character.

I doubt Cheney would forget meeting an up-and-coming senator in the opposing party, especially not one as good-looking as John Edwards. Looks aren't everything but they never hurt. People tend to like more attractive people better than less attractive ones, rate them as smarter and nicer.

25. Kerry and Edwards..
Kerry is extremely intelligent and quick on his feet. Not to call Edwards unintelligent, but his knowledge doesn't exceed Cheney's. But Edwards has charm, and a great persona. Kerry is said to have problems relating to people, but Edwards doesn't have that problem. Edwards was THE PERFECT pick for VP.

BTW, who wants to watch some old, tired CEO guy debate. Edwards gets much more attention just because of his youth. GO KERRY EDWARDS!!!

Cheney said he presides over the Senate almost every Tuesday. This morning, on NPR, the reporter who covers Congress for them says that Cheney on Tuesdays mainly spends his time presiding over a lunch for Republican Senators. He doesn't spend much time with any Democratic Senators.

44. Simply Pathological
This is exactly what happens to compulsive liars. They've so occupied their minds with trying to keep all their lies and shenanigans straight that they completely forget what the truth actually is.

Have you ever lied about something that you shouldn't have lied about, and then had to carry the lie for some time? I think you'll agree that it's hard work on the ol' noggin. Now, the last time I had to live with a lie for an extended length of time I was 13 years old; I made myself sick with it, and will never forget how much I tortured myself over that damn report card. There is a reason they say "the truth will out." It does and it will, so let's all keep our eye on the prize. Not just the presidency, but true democracy.

I think we will have a few responsible members of the mainstream media who decide to shed more light on this "mistake" of Cheney's, as it illustrates so beautifully Edwards's arguments of distortion and innuendo.

On Feb. 1, 2001, the vice president thanked Edwards by name at a Senate prayer breakfast and sat beside him during the event.

On April 8, 2001, Cheney and Edwards shook hands when they met off-camera during a taping of NBC's "Meet the Press," moderator Tim Russert said Wednesday on "Today."

On Jan. 8, 2003, the two met when the first-term North Carolina senator accompanied Elizabeth Dole to her swearing-in by Cheney as a North Carolina senator, Edwards aides also said.

As Cheney takes on high profile, Democrats can’t seem to find him
By Noelle Straub and Mary Lynn F. Jones

As the Senate prepares to act on a resolution authorizing the use of force against Iraq, Republicans say Dick Cheney has assumed an increasingly visible role on Capitol Hill.

(snip)
However, Assistant Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said he hasn’t seen Cheney “in months.” Other Democrats, including Sens. Dianne Feinstein (Calif.), Patty Murray (Wash.), Bill Nelson (Fla.) and Jean Carnahan (D-Mo.) also said they haven’t had much contact with Cheney since the Iraq issue began heating up earlier this year.

Asked why Cheney hasn’t reached out to Democrats, Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.), a member of the Armed Services Committee, replied, “You’d have to ask him – if you can find him.”

50. I mentioned this in
Campaign Discussion so I won't belabor it here. The fact that Cheney did that and knew he was lying for the cheap seats will come back to haunt him. It simply reveals deepseated arrogance to think he would get away with it.

On another note --- CNN American Morning brilliantly showed the whole video of the prayer breakfast. Not only were the now VP candidates standing together they literally SAT NEXT TO EACH OTHER and Elizabeth Edwards is next to Lynne Sleazeball Cheney. We also see and watch CHENEY!! thank John Edwards (yes he said I would like to thank Senator Edwards.) So what you always knew has been confirmed. He's an obnoxious dirtbag lying sleaze.

So spin that....and yes it will be everywhere on television tonight. Count on it.

51. That lie was noted on the Morning News...
KHOU-TV in Houston; the CBS affiliate where Dan Rather got his start. It's not a show that allows for deep analysis--just a summary of the news, weather, traffic & sports.

But it was a very short lie & very easily disproved. Just the right fit for the sort of news program everybody catches--even if they're mostly waiting to see whether rain is predicted. And those morning guys like a story they can present with a snarky smile.

Meeting Was Not First for Cheney, Edwards
By LIZ SIDOTI
Associated Press Writer

"I guess he forgot the time we sat next to each other for a couple hours about three years ago. I guess he forgot the time we met at the swearing in of another senator. So, my wife Elizabeth reminded him on the stage," Edwards said as the crowd roared.

According to Edwards' staff, Cheney replied, "Oh, yeah."

"She reminded him about the truth," Edwards told the crowd, "and come November, we're going to remind him that the American people do not want four more years of George W. Bush."

When Cheney said that in the debate, I knew it sounded highly suspect.

I hope the mainstream media hammers away at this! Along with many other lies that Cheney told last night.

I do not want the VP debate to be seen as a draw, it clearly wasn't, when nothing Edwards said can be proven false and numerous utterances by cheney have already been debunked.
