Moonlight Basin comes clean: Resort turns itself in for EPA violation

The owners of Moonlight Basin, a new ski resort at Big Sky, have agreed to pay a $39,500 fine for violating federal wetlands protection law.

The company turned itself in when the infraction was discovered.

"You might say we blew the whistle on ourselves," said Joe Vujovich, one of the partners in the ski resort and real estate development company.

The violation occurred in the fall of 2003 while a contractor was working on a ski run. Less than one-quarter of an acre of wetland was disturbed.
