Gate Gourmet announces layoffs (100 jobs - Dallas area)

Memphis-based airline food caterer Gate Gourmet Inc. has notified the state it will permanently lay off some, if not all, of its nearly 100 employees at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.

The operation supplies troubled Delta Air Lines Inc., which announced in early September it would close its D/FW hub, which carried 17.3 percent of D/FW passengers.

Privately held Gate Gourmet, operating since 1995, said the layoffs would begin the latter part of December or in January 2005, according to Richard Jones, senior regional human resources manager in a letter to the Texas Workforce Commission.

1. Something about them in the WSJ the other day

If I remember correctly, there was a story about how they refused to supply Delta with meals because Delta didn't pay them, leaving a planeload of passengers on the way to India with nothing to eat except some muffins the flight attendants had picked up on the way to work.

I'd almost want to take hold of the plane just to make em land somewhere for a bag of croissants or something!

Unbelievable! But shame on Delta. THAT would definitely sour me on them for life. Slow starvation. When my blood sugar drops, look OUT. I am NOT a happy person.
