Greensburg(PA) Kerry rally disrupted
Note this is Dicky Mellon Scaife country, but this is NOT Scaife paper reporting.

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/04280/391538.stm

<snip>

At lunchtime, 13 Kerry supporters gathered in front of the Westmoreland County Court House to bang a drum, chant slogans and exchange banter, thumbs-ups, and other hand signals with passersby.

Bush-Cheney campaign headquarters is directly across Main Street. The people inside closed the windows and lowered the blinds.

A little after noon a fiftyish man ran out the front door of the building housing the GOP offices, crossed the four-lane Main Street, and grabbed Lainie Maloy's big blue Kerry banner.

"He was screaming like a lunatic, obscenities mostly," the Greensburg woman said, her peace-sign earrings swinging.

"He told us he hopes al Qaida kills us all," said Thor Strong. "He grabbed the banner and took off back across the road, dragging with him."

16. I got called a Communist today by a co-worker
One of the koolaid drinking Limpballs/Shannity listeners came in to the office kitchen today where I was just quietly cleaning my coffee pot and cup and started razzing me that Cheney "destroyed" Edwards. Naturally I refuted him and said Edwards was winning all the polls - he retorted with that lame ABC poll.

When I told him Cheney showed who really ran the country last night, and it wasn't the idiot in chief he called me a Communist when I was leaving. I got back in his face and told him I don't take that shit and I'm as patriotic as he is.

Felt bad for the co-worker and vending machine employee who heard this. Had a few people question what the ruckus was but thankfully nothing said by the management.

I wasn't really that mad, more amused by the jerk, but just like Dems who face his "Wingnut pundit heroes" I had to raise my voice a bit to get the point across over his loudmouth Repug talking points rantings.

20. I receive the same type of treatment,
but as a veteran who supports Kerry, I'm usually called a traitor. I don't let it get me down though, as I have put my butt on the line while those who hurl the epithets are usually the typical "cheerleader" types who think the war in Iraq is akin to a televised football game. As you so aptly phrased it "they are wingnut pundit heros".

Keep up the good fight.

9. "He told us he hopes al Qaida kills us all,"
okay, someone want to explain to me how this is NOT giving aid and comfort to the enemy?

Why is it okay for freepers to wish death and destruction on liberals, and yet the slightest rebuttal to any of their absurd sound bytes is met with the stupid question "why do you hate Bush? Why are you giving comfort to the enemy?"

My point is that it's a stupid argument to bring up in the first place, and the GOP and neocons should be smacked down for even introducing the thought.

11. This has been building for months
A tiny little Kerry bumper sticker can send certain drivers into road rage to the point of driving you off the road, screaming a yelling obsceneties at you, flipping you the finger amoung other actions.

One of my friends here in Florida walked into a bank where a woman tried to pull her Beat Bush button right off her shirt.

They're all unhinged. Just like their two leaders. Temper temper.

27. Still no abuse after 4 months w/ Kerry sticker on my car.
I did get my tires slashed after I wrote "IMPEACH THE SHRUB" on the dirt on the back of my car, shortly after the start of the Iraq war.

Nothing else since. (I live in Nashville.)

On the contrary, I'm seeing more and more Kerry bumper stickers and yard signs every single day. Some days I drive home (30 mile commute each way on the interstate) and see more Kerry stickers than W stickers. Not every day, but some days.

12. Imagine what ardent W supporters are feeling these days.
Its all falling apart, and they know it. The New American Century is gonna fall 96 years short.

I imagine their behavior will become even more irrational as the anger and frustration grows. It'll be easy to spot a Republican on November 3rd. Long faces, short tempers ...

13. I don't know why they let that Republican...
...slip in her talking points about other GOP offices being targeted. I think it's mostly BS, but when it's put in the story as an aside like that, people aren't going to try to find out the true story. So a verifiable event where a man coming FROM (not just TO) the building where the GOP offices are attacks a group of Dems is turned into a story about Dems attacking the GOP. How fair.

15. Er...Thor Strong?
Either somebody gave the Post Gazette a fictitious name, or his parents read too many comics.

But yes, swearing Bush louts are very bad. This, in fact, is happening on both sides; I'm sure it's very personally satisfying for the nutty true believers, but it has nothing to do with democracy and everything to do with the slide into fascism.

their chimp don't dance and their daddy don't rock 'n roll.

Sometimes I wonder what they'd fill in the blank with if they had not been gifted with the term al Qaida? They loooooooove their boogeymen, don't they?! If so many people were not dead because of them, I'd almost think it's humorous.

Pick your audience and you can grow deaf from the applause.

25. I think this is wrong to interpret as just another looney tale
There's a very serious dimension to all these tales of assaults and thefts and hackings.

These people are not the conservatives we fought 20 or 15 or even 10 years ago. Today, the right wing activists who are arrayed against us and the rest of America are believers in what is at core a totalitarian philosophy. They believe that they are absolutely right and good because their ideology tells them they are. They believe that all who disagree with them are absolutely wrong and the very incarnation of evil, because their ideology says we're evil. Because they don't have the absolute power that they crave, most of them restrain themselves from engaging in criminal behavior against us, but their restraint is tactical, not moral. Obviously, some of them can't seem to keep themselves under control. But if the lid ever came off and they were free to attack anyone who opposes them, that's exactly what they'd do.

We're not dealing with frustrated nuts here. We're dealing with would-be stormtroopers.

32. In answer to where did the road rage take place
In Sarasota, on N. Lockwood Ridge Road, twice. Two different lunatics passed me blowing their horn, flipping the finger and swearing at me and yelling negatives about Kerry. Then they cut sharply in front of me and slowed down to 20 miles per hour.

Tonight there was an SUV in front of me with anti Kerry stickers all over it including Kerry lied, men died. I wanted to road rage them off the road, but my husband was driving and he is not hot headed like me.
