AUSTRALIAN wheat marketer AWB today confirmed it had secured a one-million-tonne wheat contract with the Iraqi Grain Board to provide humanitarian supplies in the next six months.
An AWB spokesman said he was not able to immediately reveal how much the contract was worth.AWB Limited managing director Andrew Lindberg said the deal was based on AWB's faultless record of being a reliable supplier of high quality wheat to Iraq.
"AWB's ability to deliver reliably to all destinations within the country will ensure the food needs of the Iraqi people are protected throughout this critical period," Mr Lindberg said.
"This is a strategic decision by Iraq to ensure their food security is protected and we are honoured to once again provide them with the necessary level of support during such a challenging period."
Mr Lindberg said Iraq was a very important market for Australian wheat exporters."This is a significant sale and provides an excellent start for AWB's new crop export program," he said.
