'Sen. Gone' is a dig from Moore (NC) paper

<snip>

"His hometown paper has taken to calling him 'Senator Gone,' " Cheney said. That hometown paper, it turns out, was The Pilot of Southern Pines in Moore County, about 20 miles south of Edwards' boyhood home in Robbins.

"Senator Gone" was actually one reference in an editorial, "Edwards Should Do His Day Job," in the paper June 25, 2003. It criticized Edwards for missing Senate votes as he campaigned for the Democratic presidential nomination.

David Woronoff, publisher of the thrice-weekly paper, said his newspaper stood by the editorial. But he noted that The Pilot's editorial page has supported Edwards.

"I hated it that it was presented in a way that we were attacking him," Woronoff said, noting that Edwards spoke in 1999 when the building was renovated. With a 15,200 circulation, it is the only newspaper published in Moore.

2. Now Senator I want you to go to factcheck.com and find the truth
to what Haliburton is all about.

Good find leftchick. Talk about being petty. I thought Cheney was making up that Mr. Gone title. Then after reading your link, well, what can 'ya say? I hope everyone reads the 30 second article.

5. The Pilot printed a response to Cheney...
where they noted that it wasn't the paper that called Edwards Senator Gone--they merely said he was being called that in DC. So this was yet another Cheney lie/distortion.

11. It's been hours since I read the article, but didn't the newspaper say

something to the effect that if he missed too many more voted, people might start calling him Senator Gone?

Vastly different from the newspaper calling him Senator Gone on a regular basis, isn't it? In fact, as I recall, they didn't even call him Senator Gone once.

14. president gone
if we live under the major threat of nuclear bombs in soft-sided samsonite carry-ons, as cheney claims, then WHY are he and his "boss" absent from their washington offices, when they should be doing the "hard work" of protecting us from terrists, rather than attending dress rehearsals for the debates? how i hope kerry states the full extent of bush2's abuse of his vacation leave policy, and that he promises to work hard, rather than complain about the hard work, as his soon-to-be predecessor is inclined to do.

15. I hope the story from this small paper gets a fair airing
That nasty attempt at character assassination surely should be rebutted publicly.

It's only right they are loudly corrected when wrong or when lying.
