Duval symbolizes black voters' anger (Civil Right leaders rebuffed)
But the scene at the Duval elections office this week looked more 1964 than 2004:

Nearly a dozen African-American civil rights leaders stood at a counter, demanding the white elections boss help them ensure that as many of their constituents as possible can vote.

Tightening his lips, the voting official curtly replied that they were out of luck. No, he could not try to correct voter registration forms that were turned in incomplete. No, he would not consider opening early voting offices convenient for African-American neighborhoods.

"So you take the position that you're not going to do anything we want?" the Rev. Levy Wilcox asked, incredulous, at the end of a 10-minute brushoff.

"That is correct," responded assistant elections supervisor Dick Carlberg, standing a few feet from a "Partners in Democracy" banner.

2. How very very painful to read that some *** supervisor of elections is
standing in the way of democracy and that the asshole bush brother who serves as our governor is just going to stand by and let him do that... of course, the supervisor of elections is probably doing what he is doing because the asshole bush brother has in some way okayed it for him to do so. THESE BUSHES, NONE OF THEM, BELIEVE IN DEMOCRACY.

3. Just posted this in GD2004. Think drastic action in FLA is the only hope.

4. Those who remove the means of peaceful change
insure that the other kind occurs eventually.

Though it may take 80 years as in the case of the Soviets or 400 years in the case of Imperial Rome.

NO WAY it takes that long for Imperial Amerika to fall.

8. No. All we have to do is send the Bushes packing to some Banana Republic
Like they did to Jean Bertrand Aristide and countless others.

6. How interesting
that they won't "correct" these registrations, but the repubs had no difficulty or problem with "correcting" all those registrations for repubs in the 2000 election (right in the election supervisors' offices, too).

7. And no problem when Jeb stepped in overnight in the Terry Schiavo
case, even getting a law pushed through the legislature, tells all one needs to know about getting any help for Democrats from Governor Jeb.
