BAGHDAD, Oct 8 (Reuters) - Insurgents attacked a U.S. military patrol north of Baghdad on Friday, killing one soldier and wounding another, the U.S. military said in a statement.

The soldiers were on patrol near the town of Tuz, about 180 km (112 miles) north of Baghdad, when they came under fire. Two wounded soldiers were evacuated to a medical facility and one later died, the military said.

The second soldier was said to be in a stable condition.

U.S. convoys and patrols are regularly attacked by insurgents who plant roadside bombs or fire rocket-propelled grenades and assault rifles.
