Although their piece is basically a rebuttal by the WH. Bleh.

The Mystery of the Bulge in the Jacket
By ELISABETH BUMILLER

ASHINGTON, Oct. 8 - What was that bulge in the back of President Bush's suit jacket at the presidential debate in Miami last week?

According to rumors racing across the Internet this week, the rectangular bulge visible between Mr. Bush's shoulder blades was a radio receiver, transmitting answers from an offstage counselor into a hidden presidential earpiece. The prime suspect was Karl Rove, Mr. Bush's powerful political adviser.

24. That was my first thought too
when I saw Kerry pat Bush on the back at the end of the opening handshakes. (I've been skeptical of the whole earpiece thing, but that's what popped immediately to mind.)

and they categorically DENIED that either man had ANY electronic devices..

THIS PICTURE clearly shows the "object".. It's from a FOX feed.. (They were told NOT to photoigraph from behind...why??

The whole place was JAMMED a few hours before the debate.. NO electronic device of ANYONE there worked (and they had all worked perfectly BEFORE * arrived..

The numerous articles in the link detail SEVERAL "odd" electronic transmissions at SEVERAL other * events..

The WH has told many different accountings of it..

The thread linked also has a LONG accounting of all the other oddities..from the Guardian.. They are on this as well..

Remember too.. these are the same folks who BUGGED the UN before the war..

6. huh???
First they said that pictures showing the bulge might have been doctored. But then, when the bulge turned out to be clearly visible in the television footage of the evening, they offered a different explanation.

"There was nothing under his suit jacket," said Nicolle Devenish, the Bush campaign's communications director.

"It was most likely a rumpling of that portion of his suit jacket, or a wrinkle in the fabric."

Campaign and White House officials said the bulge was definitely not a receiver.

Edited on Sat Oct-09-04 05:02 AM by DemBones DemBones
always spinning for Bush* on tv. OK, it's what she's paid to do.

"There was nothing under his suit jacket," said Nicolle Devenish, a campaign spokeswoman.

"It was most likely a rumpling of that portion of his suit jacket, or a wrinkle in the fabric."

Ms. Devenish could not say why the "rumpling" was rectangular.

Nor was the bulge from a bulletproof vest, according to campaign and White House officials; they said Mr. Bush was not wearing one.

But if he wasn't wearing a vest under his jacket, what the hell WAS that bulge? I'm not buying a "rumpling" or a "wrinkle."

It looks like a book, or a box. So what is it?

15. They've got the tailor involved now.
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2002058469_bushbulge09.html

WASHINGTON — President Bush's tailor yesterday pooh-poohed an Internet conspiracy theory that a boxy bulge visible between President Bush's shoulder blades during the first debate could have been some kind of prompting device.

Georges de Paris, who made the suit worn by Bush, said the bulge was nothing more than a pucker along the jacket's back seam, accentuated when the president crossed his arms and leaned forward.

snip>

De Paris, who has tailored suits for every U.S. president since Lyndon Johnson, said the jacket fit Bush snugly through the shoulders, which may have exaggerated the effect.

snip>

"The truth is not nearly as interesting," McKinnon told MediaChannel.org. "The president has never been assisted by any audio signal."

Never?

16. Doesn't matter if they're debunking
Think like Rove, guys! ANY coverage of Bush possibly cheating in the debate is a good thing! Do you think he worries about whether allegations are provable before he puts them out there? Remember his mantra about politics: If you're explaining, you're losing.

The media is part and parcel of the Bushco political machine. If they feel they have to explain this for him, then he's losing!

BWWWAAAAHHHHHAAAAAHHHHHAAAA!

Bush's Tailor Refutes Earpiece Theory
President Bush's tailor breaks the White House silence on whether the bulge in Bush's suit was due to an earpiece :

31. Not if it was a last-minute drill....
...because weewee was flailing at last minute preps. At a White House presser, they could stuff the receiver anywhere. In a podium, behind a curtain--hell, Karen Hughes could stand on the sidelines and hold it in her purse. At the debate venue, they could not tamper with the set, they'd be caught. The only place to stash the thing was ON him. And if they discovered that weewee didn't do his homework, they had to 'quick like a bunny' come up with some way to feed him his lines.

For those who don't think coverage of this isn't helpful, trust me, it is. Even if the text of the article doesn't suppport the headline, there are plenty of bottom feeders who just read headlines. And there are plenty of people who are inclined to believe anything they read in a headline.

The Kerry campaign is wisely remaining mum, but the damage is done without them having to say a single word. A badly fitting suit, a squarish lump, a "LET ME FINISH!" and a load of bumbling, stumbling and deer in the headlights looks....sure, it won't remain the top story, but it does not need to. Chip, chip, chip....eventually the structure will crumble. One day he is incompetent, the next day he is furious and hopped-up. What will he be at the next debate--languid? Stoned? Cavalier? It's like watching someone with a multiple personality condition...you never see the same guy twice.
