Poll: Bush, Kerry even in 2nd debate
Evident whorishness. The online poll now 8:00AM PST shows
Kerry - 75%, Bush - 22%, Undecided - 3% and the article itself
says:

The respondents included 515 registered voters who watched the debate. Their political affiliations broke down as 38 percent Republican, 32 percent Democratic and 30 percent independent.

---

The respondents were polled before the event and 50 percent said they planned to vote for Bush while 46 percent favored Kerry.

---

The president also scored higher when respondents were asked which candidate would be tougher; Bush was favored 53 percent to 40 percent over Kerry.

---

Kerry was viewed as the candidate who understood the issues better (47-42) and the one who expressed himself more clearly (54-37).

Basically Bush wins the "Big Swinging Dick" vote.

10. Is it "Oversampling Repubs" or is it Fraud?
It is hard so see how the media polls call it nearly a tie, with only a slight edge for Kerry, and the online polls are running something like 75% for Kerry won and 25% for Bush won.

The MSRNC poll showed more than 1 million responses and the CNN poll showed more than 460,000 responses. Surely, neither the DUers nor other dedicated Dems could have had such an effective conspiracy that would it produce these highly significant departures from the media poll results.

And what about the freepers and other Repubs? Are they too timid to vote in the online polls?

Could be that Bush is so unpopular that the media pollsters have to use ersatz statistical devices to mask his unpopularity, and/or cover up a forthcoming massive nationwide election fraud?

5. Could their bias be any more evident?
On the issue of who could better handle the economy, Kerry made gains with the respondents. Bush led 50 percent to 44 percent before the night began, but the two candidates emerged tied at 49-49.

Bush showed strong gains on the issue of who would better handle Iraq. What was a 50-46 lead for Kerry became a 53-46 edge for Bush.

Note that Kerry made gains on the economy with respondents. +5 points

Note that Bush made strong gains on handling Iraq. +3 points

18. Note
Bush's gain on Iraq with this sample is +11 since Bush went up 7 (from 46 to 53) and Kerry went down 4 (from 50 to 46).

On the economy Kerry gained +6. Kerry went up 5 (44 to 49) and Bush went down 1 (50 to 49).

20. I'm only interested in the polls of 'undecideds.'
They may or may not be undecided, but at least they're not those who proclaim what side they're on -- so they're more likely to be influenced by the debate and the remaining campaign than are those who clearly proclaim a side.

After that, the most-important thing is who is 'firmed up' -- whether those leaning to one candidate or another have fallen for the candidate.

12. 515 people is too small a sample
also, what is breakdown of age, sex, geographic location, education, etc.

Sounds like the pollster cherry picked the sample to get the result he wanted. There shouldn't be so much of a difference between these results and the online polls.

14. Viewers Divided on Debate Winner
44 Percent Say Kerry Won, 41 Percent Say Bush Won
Analysis By GARY LANGER

Oct. 9, 2004 — The presidential contenders battled to a draw, with viewers of the second presidential debate in St. Louis divided, largely along partisan lines, on who won.

Among registered voters who watched Friday night's debate, 44 percent called John Kerry the winner, 41 percent said President Bush won and 13 percent called it a tie. That three-point difference between Kerry and Bush is within the poll's margin of sampling error. <snip>

About equal numbers of partisans tuned in — 35 percent of viewers were Democrats, 32 percent Republicans and 29 percent independents. And few minds were changed: Viewers divided by 50 percent to 47 percent between Kerry and Bush before the debate, and by an almost identical 50 percent to 48 percent after it.

That's customarily the case in immediate post-debate polls; debates, at least in the first blush, tend more to reinforce viewers' pre-existing perceptions than to change them. <snip>
