CNN survey: Bush maintains Electoral College lead
http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/10/08/electoral.map/index.html

Kerry appears to close gap in some key states

ST. LOUIS, Missouri (CNN) -- President Bush headed into his second debate with John Kerry Friday night holding a sizable lead in the all-important race for electoral votes, but Kerry has made big gains this week in seven battleground states, a new CNN survey suggests.

If the election were held today, Bush likely would win 301 electoral votes to Kerry's 237, according to a new CNN survey based on state polling as well as interviews with campaign aides and independent analysts. A candidate wins the election with at least 270 electoral votes, regardless of the popular vote.

18. LOVE that map! the way it SHOULD look
and can we PLEASE get rid of the EC, or at least make it proportional?

I know that's pretty much the same thing, but I'm so sick of this campaigning in 10 states.

the ultimate irony, and one that gives me nightmares, is if Colorado goes proportional, Kerry wins, and somehow loses the EV by the margin he'd have won if Col went winner take all. would he have grounds for a lawsuit? as if he could possibly win with the SCOTUS

11. The End of CNN
I was a CNN news junkie for years.

But after Ted Turner no longer was a part of the company, and when it became part of AOLTimeWarner, it slowly deteriorated into mediocrity.

I have not watched CNN since the Democratic primaries.

I just will not watch.

And I hardly ever even visit their web site either.

"Conservative News Network" is all it has become ... 'All Bush, All the Time'.

way oversampled Republicans.

BTW, a 301 to 237 lead is not large. A couple of states swing Kerry's way and he's ahead.

21. I agree
CNN has Bush ahead in New Hampshire, New Mexico, Wisconsin, Ohio, Florida, Colorado and Iowa. Kerry is at least tied in most of those states. Kerry probably won't win CO, but if they vote on split EVs there, he'll probably get 4 of the 9 EVs.

Edited on Sat Oct-09-04 05:53 PM by DinoBoy

As has been pointed out...

Zogby (a reliable pollster :-)) has Kerry ahead (although in many cases by small margins) in Nevada, New Mexico, Iowa, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Florida, Ohio, New Hampshire, and both Maine districts. Bush is VERY SLIGHTLY ahead in Colorado, Missouri, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Virginia.

Check out for Zogby's latest:

In F 9 11 the Bin Laudens were meeting at the Ritz Carlton to discuss their business interests with Bush and Carlyle. I think they said that the Bin Laudens had to drop out of one of the war investments. I remember bits and pieces, not all of the facts. Thanks so much.

31. Do Not Believe A Damn Word,
that CNN says..... Just remember one week before the 2000 vote, CNN had Bush ahead by 12 points.... Now if you really wish to see how things really are in polling. One need only go no further then Zogby. Remember, Zogby had Gore by 1 on election eve. Here it is as of October 8, 2004.

Mr. Kerry now leads in the race for Electoral College votes and can now see a path to victory, but it’s still far from his grasp. Needing 270 votes to become the next President, he has coddled together a lead in states that total 278, compared to just 207 for Mr. Bush, the latest collection of polls by Zogby Interactive shows.

http://zogby.com/news/ReadNews.dbm?ID=879 released October 8, 2004
