Newsday -- Poll: Young adults fear draft coming: 51% BUSH DRAFT coming
Poll: Young adults fear draft coming

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

October 9, 2004

WASHINGTON - In spite of denials by the Bush administration, half of young Americans believe President George W. Bush wants to reinstate the military draft, a national poll suggests.

The National Annenberg Election Survey found that 51 percent of adults age 18 to 29 believe Bush wants to reinstate the draft.

Eight percent said Kerry supports bringing back the draft,
7 percent said both want to. A fourth said neither candidate favors the idea and 8 percent said they did not know the candidates' positions on the issue.

-snip-

Three in 10 of 1,543 adults of all age ranges think Bush wants to reinstate the draft, and 7 percent of all adults think both Bush and Kerry feel that way.

In May, the Seattle Post Intelligencer published an article about a document they received through the Freedom of Information Act. It was revealed that the SSS is currently “designing procedures” for the implementation of a “Skills Draft” after holding a top-level meeting on it with Deputy Undersecretaries at the Defense Department. This draft would change the very mission of the Selective Service and require “virtually every young American”, male and female ages 18-34, to register for the Skills Draft and list all the occupations they are proficient in to fill labor shortages throughout nearly the entire government.

Here, for the first time, is the FOI document itself:

http://blatanttruth.org/selective_service091304.pdf

This document is real, having been acknowledged by the DoD and the SSS when they said no action is being taken on it at the present time, as reported:

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/national/171522_draft01.html

Although Congress would have to approve new legislation to create a Skills Draft or reinstate the combat draft, Family Circle reported in its July 13 issue that Karl Rove has polled GOP members of Congress in September 2002 to see if they would support the President if he requests reinstatement. The Republicans said they would vote for the draft.

In addition, the SSS itself has said that it is “designing procedures” (Seattle PI, May 1, 2004) to implement the skills draft, meaning designing the compliance cards and the data fields needed to keep track of “virtually every young American” and their skills. Acting Director of the SSS Brodsky has also said the Skills Draft is the “top priority” of the Selective Service for 2004. The Issue Paper options include:

- Allow a non-combat draft for shortages in critical skills, without calling a combat draft.

- Fill labor shortages of all kinds throughout not only DoD but the Dept. of Homeland Security and other agencies, especially high-paying professionals like computer networking specialist or linguist.

- Create a single-point, all-inclusive database, in which every young person would be forced to send in a “self-declaration” of all of their critical skills, chosen from a long list of occupations like the Armed Forces Specialty Code. The usual penalties of imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine would apply to all non-registrants.

In contrast to this planning and preparation to create a targeted draft, Kerry plans to spend an additional $7 billion to strengthen the Volunteer Army in what is essentially a “No-Draft Plan”. Moreover, Kerry is strongly opposed to the neo-con plan revealed in Wes Clark’s book Winning Modern Wars, in which Clark was told by a senior Pentagon official that invasions of Syria, Lebanon, Iran, Sudan and Somalia were planned and still to come over the next three years.

1. Almost as many think Bush will bring back the draft
as believe Saddam was behind 9/11

What a WONDERFUL education system we have in this country.

For me, I plan on encouraging EVERYONE to be afraid of the draft because there is no way Bush is not going to push for it once the dust settles IF he wins.

What the fuck will he have to lose then?

10. W&Co.'s implication trick is back firing on them (like Saddam-9/11 link)
That is what is the funniest part of this. Re-instateing the draft has always been a Dem issue (Charlie Rangel) but the source got distorted in public opinion and now "the kids" think W is pushing to restart the draft. Too funny.

RW radio is trying desperately to get the word out that this is a Dem idea but the same thing that caused ~60% to think that Saddam was in some way responsible for 9/11----they are listening to the message and are only taking from it what is implied.

11. Drafted to Jury Duty
One thing for sure, if you register to vote, depending on where you live, you are likely to soon get a summons for jury duty. I registered this summer and the damn jury notice showed up less than two months later.

There is no way the jury duty should be tied to registering to vote. This is clearly intended to be a disincentive for people to register to vote. Now they have me on the rolls and I will can be summoned every year. Tell me this is not a draft to service! Just for registering to vote!!!

17. Don't be too sure about Kerry not implementing the Draft.
Edited on Sun Oct-10-04 07:10 PM by GHOSTDANCER
It seems to me we will have war on our hands either way. Is a Saudi war not to far off? Would Kerry aliegnate The entire Muslim world when we wing ourselves from their Oil?

Bush - Occupy Iraq and steal the oil from them some how(Shit Enron and Halliburton did it to us whats a bunch of brown people to these thugs) Americans get to continue the lavish Western life style of destroying the planet. Sitting in Iraq only keeps the other Mid east Muslims in the Check position.

Kerry - Pull out of Iraq. Nothing changes, Not with Afghanastan nor Iraq. We cut the flow of weapons and cash for Oil progam( and I'm not talking about Iraq and I'm talkin about Saudi and Isreal) The Muslims world combines forces to DESTROY THE INFIDELS!!!!!

LOL
