An Iraqi-born Nashville resident has been arrested on charges of illegally possessing machines guns, following a citizen tip that Ahmed Hassan Al-Uqaily, 33, allegedly spoke of “going jihad.”

Al-Uqaily was arrested Thursday in southeast Nashville at his place of business after allegedly paying $1,000 for two disassembled M-16 machine guns, four disassembled hand grenades, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition from an undercover agent working with the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force.

When asked where he would go on his mission, Al-Uqaily allegedly “expressed animosity towards the Jewish community,” and a discussion ensued about two Jewish facilities in the Nashville area, but Al-Uqaily gave no indication of specific plans in connection with those facilities, according tot affidavit.

2. he sounds like a lone nut, not part of a cell
but if he wanted to do anything to hurt the cause of the people in Iraq, this would definitely be one of the worst things he could do.

since when do the Jewish residents of Nashville, TN have anything to do with George Bush's mess?

Jewish people in the United States, according to voter surveys, tend to vote for democrats.

It makes about as much sense to do something to them because of anger about Bush's Iraq war as it does for someone to pistol whip that idiot because he lives in America while Ashcroft holds people without charge in Gitmo.

5. buying weapons "from an undercover agent working with the FBI" -
Edited on Sat Oct-09-04 11:36 PM by Eye and Monkey
there was an appropriate comment in a thread in GD-Camp last nite - something about "I've gave my daughter a pack of cigarettes, then grounded her for two weeks because she thought about smoking."

9. He'd have been a "lone gunman," (if he'd carried out his plan), or a
___________ (fill in the blank) Bomber

8. Sounds like the guy here at LAX
a couple of years ago on July 4th. He went berzerk at the El Al counter and shot a couple of people. Anti-semitic, nuts, yes, hardly a part of an organized terrorist organization.

10. Do you ever wonder why people who solicit murder for hire always
end up hiring the police? Sounds like the same deal. Oh well... people shouldn't be trying to hire killers and this guy shouldn't have been trying to arm himself for jihad.

Makes you wonder, though, if he is just crazy, how successful he would have been in procuring his armaments without the helpful arm of the law.
