Candidates want new Afghan election
Edited on Sun Oct-10-04 02:17 AM by white_rider
http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/asiapcf/10/10/afghanistan.elections/index.html

KABUL, Afghanistan (CNN) -- Afghanistan's first election is marred by controversy with all but one of the presidential candidates alleging voter fraud and vowing to discount the results.

Millions of Afghans -- including veiled women -- braved threats of Taliban violence to cram polling stations throughout the ethnically diverse nation and by the time polling stations closed Saturday there were only a few reports of violence.

Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai -- the only candidate not to allege voter irregularities -- said Saturday the country's first democratic election was fair and legitimate in spite of the complaints.

snip ...

Officials agreed to investigate the accusations of voter fraud.

Sounds like the Republican partisans were running this election.
