Black Baptist preacher organizing for Bush
from local newspaper...

Local pastor backing Bush
By Marshall Allen
Staff Writer

Saturday, October 09, 2004 - PASADENA -- The Rev. William Turner voted for Bill Clinton twice and for Al Gore in 2000. But this year he is forming a coalition of African-American pastors in an effort to re-elect President Bush, who, he says, is "acting as the voice of God' by opposing same-sex marriage. Turner, 67, is pastor of the 1,000- member New Revelation Missionary Baptist Church in Northwest Pasadena. According to Turner, about 250 pastors who represent a half a million Americans have joined the coalition to re-elect the president.

Johnson said it's possible that Turner is motivated by money specifically the federal faith-based initiative funds that are doled out to religious organizations. But Turner denies any financial motivation for his actions.

Turner has weathered previous controversies. In 1998 he was the subject of a police probe after he allegedly deposited an $86,000 check and began withdrawing on the amount before bank officials became aware it was counterfeit. Turner said at the time he had been swindled by a con man who had offered him $10,000 to cash the check. The District Attorney's Office said there was insufficient evidence in the case.

In 1999, a Superior Court judge ordered Turner and two church members to repay a $120,000 federal loan earmarked for job training, child care and a catering truck business that either failed or never started. Turner said he did nothing wrong in the case.

continued.

2. Has Bush faith based fund been open to this man?
I do not know where Bush gets this money but he has turned over a lot to churches. I do not think it goes through the House. It is some type fund he has. It is like the DOD giving 20 million for getting some one they want.

16. B/C 04 Sticker Spotted in unusual Place
I live in Indianapolis and I've not been surprised to see a good deal less BC stickers than in 2000. Eve the Repubs in my somewhat upscale neighbor hood who are sporting Mitch Daniel Governor yard signs don't have BC signs. I did spot one today on an 'old School" car driven by a young Black male who struck me as being a member of the hip hop persuasion. The booming rap music coming from his car lead me to this conclusion. As a Black female who is probably old enough to be his grandmother I was so tempted to try and get him to pull over and ask him what's up with the BC 04 sticker. I can't get this out of my mind. I feel that I missed an opportunity to dialogue with a potential convert even if we are in a state that undoubtedly continue it's red tradition. This administration has done nothing to improve the lot of young Black males so I'm at a total loss to understand why he would sport the sticker. As for the Baptist minister, I agree it's all about the money and ideology be damned.

20. I know that church!
I live not far from his church and everyone in the area knows that his church and his followers have more DRAMA than a daytime soap opera. A few years ago I went there once with a friend and after the service was over there were 2 girls straight outta church FIST FIGHTING over some usher. He's a KNOWN adulter and has a preaching style of Reverend (give me your money)Ike. I know alot of church-going people in Pasadena and most of them stay clear New Revelation. His church is a JOKE and Rev. Turner is the laughing stock in the community.

I wouldn't be terribly worried about his influence over the election. He DOES NOT represent me nor any other African American who is paying attention to the issues and care enough to vote.

21. My GOD, I'm so sick of this!!
Why do these people cheneying care? How is it going to hurt them? Gays have been part of society since the beginning of time and we've all gotten along just fine. For years now gay couples have been living together as spouses, raising children and doing everything straight couples do. How is civilization going to fall because of a little piece of paper and legal benefits given to these people? Stuff like this, I'll never understand.

23. I hope all the GLBT folks leave his church
It will be very quiet. If, and it is a big if, more black GLBT people stood up against this bullshit, these theives in the temple would be much weaker. The least we, and I mean my black GLBT brothers and sisters, can do is stop participating in our own oppression. If a preacher is preaching hate, walk out. No one has a monopoly on God, and all of these Old Testament Christians would do well to spend more time getting to know Jesus and less time hunting through the Bible to justify their own prejudices. The people this corrupt preacher is allying himself with are the same people who use the Bible to justify racism, domestic abuse, and a host of other oppressive practices. There was somebody else along the way who sold out for a few pieces of silver. Judas.

27. Follow the money. Guaranteed.
Follow it and you will soon come to Lily White Payola of the type Rev. Jesse Lee Petersen and most other Black Busheviuks reveive.

Apparently, Vichy France style treason is not limited to a single race of human beings.

We are ALL capable of selling each other out for a pittance.

Just ask the Jews who served the Nazis in Auschwitz as Barracks Chiefs.
