Sean Penn to Trey & Stone: Don't Discourage Voters
Edited on Mon Oct-11-04 09:21 AM by Bucky

South Park creators get poison Penn letter

Oscar winner Sean Penn apparently wrote an angry letter to the comedy duo after they made fun of Sean ‘P Diddy’ Combs’ Vote Or Die campaign...

In the letter – said to have left the comic writers “howling with laughter” - Penn wrote: “I remember a cordial hello when you guys were beginning to be famous guys around Hollywood. I remember several times getting a few giggles out of your humour.

“I remember not being bothered as you traded on my name among others to appear witty. I never mind being of service in satire and silliness.

“I do mind when anybody who doesn’t have a child, doesn’t have a child at war, or isn’t or won’t be in harm’s way themselves is saying that ’there is no shame in not voting if you don’t know what you are talking about’.

1. Knowing Trey and Matt...
.. now that Sean Penn has written this letter, he will be absolutely shredded in a South Park episode. Should make for comedy gold.

3. Trey and Matt have a point, but countless SP episodes have been quite
strident in getting their point across on issues one could argue Trey and Matt know nothing about. In any case, Sean probably should have just let it alone--you're right, they will skewer him royally!

4. Does anybody still watch South Park?
The humor died there years ago. It's just one big repeat after another, anymore. These guys are has beens. Or should be, in a world where people actually demanded quality -- or at least some original work.

6. I didnt for a while..
... but most recently they have put out some of the funniest episodes they have ever done IMHO. I have no idea what their schedule is as far as when new episodes come out, their season scheduling is really disjointed, or maybe I just don't get it, a few new episodes, then reruns again, one or two new ones, then reruns.

The newer material is comedy gold, they are definitely growing, the humor is becoming more biting and dead on the money, and at the same toime the story lines are getting so outrageous. One of the very few shows that gets me to laugh hysterically out loud even when I am home alone.

8. They're last couple of seasons have been their best ever.

They hit everybody on both sides, regardless of political view. IMHO, they hit the conservatives WAAAAAYYYY harder than they hit the liberals.

I respect Sean Penn a lot, but, c'mon, it's a cartoon who's main thing is to make fun of celebrities and popular movements. There's no way that they're going to cause people not to vote.

9. SP was cool before3 TDSWJS showed the world how political satire
works. Now I just watch SP and wonder how they got so LCD and out of touch with reality.

10. I'm glad you all get laughs out of them.
More power to you.

But they put me to sleep now, as I don't see the "hits" as being anything different than what they've done before.

Maybe I'm just too picky.

5. (dupe thread) More and more, I think this is a Rovian publicity stunt...
Edited on Mon Oct-11-04 10:46 AM by HuckleB
performed by the two SouthPark has beens themselves. There's no evidence that this came from Penn, yet these guys are desperate for publicity -- and it's clear that Rove and company reside among their heroes.

As I wrote, on the other thread (link below):

"Why do I suspect that this is a hoax?

I wouldn't be surprised if Penn offered such feelings, but I do think he would be more eloquent with his pen (or keyboard). And I don't think he would make the mistake of using "your" as the conjunction "you're," as this purported letter does ("not knowing what your talking about").

I may be wrong, but I just can't keep from offering the thoughts that come to mind."

7. Did you know that Sean Penn...
drives a 1987 Buick Grand National? I thought that was sort of a cool choice.
