Norwegians Place Anti-Bush Ad in Washington Post
Norwegians Place Anti-Bush Ad in Washington Post
Tue Oct 12, 2004 05:57 AM ET

OSLO (Reuters) - Norwegians including artists and politicians made a rare foray into U.S. politics Tuesday with an advertisement in a U.S. newspaper saying that President Bush's war on terror was backfiring.

The Norwegian group "http://tellhim.no" said it used about $50,000 in donations from 4,000 people to fund the advertisement in the Washington Post to tell Bush that 80 percent of people in NATO-member Norway opposed the U.S.-led war in Iraq.

"Mr. President, your country can once again be a leading example of democracy and freedom, inspiring a world where terrorism can no longer breed," it said. "Your present policy only fosters resistance, more than ever, everywhere."

It urged a shift in U.S. foreign policy to allow greater U.N. involvement in Iraq, an apology to the Iraqi people for the war and compensation for victims.

39. Judilyn, notice how CLEAN Bush's "work" gloves are!
In the upper left hand corner of your photo group, notice those pristine light-colored gloves on "hard-working" Bush! It's a great eye-opener -- dress-up for a photo-op. I don't know about others, but I can put on a pair of brand new gloves in the morning to work in the garden or orchard or even just to drive the tractor, and by noon they're filthy and bent into the shape of my curled hands.

If Bush had been truly cutting down brush on his "ranch" they should at least have shown the shape of his hands, they should have shown some green from the pine needles, dust, or something. This kind of let's-pretend that Bush engages in down there in Crawford is truly embarrassing.

46. at a Colorado photo-op, a child said Bush "smelled like fresh carpet"
There was the Shrub, wearing bright new "work" clothes (jeans, plaid shirt, gloves) -- clearly right out of the wrapper. Bush was acting the part of the jovial hard-working "Ranger George", in a pristine costume. But nobody besides that kid called him on it.

Welcome to DU, jkshaw!

4. Hey, its hard work
Kudos to the intentions of the Norwegians. I think they would have been better off having a beer party with the money than thinking they'll have any effect on this election.

The lines are drawn and the only question is who will get their voters to the polls in big enough numbers in enough states to overwhelm the GOP Theft Machine.

9. Somewhere, in D.C, Dick Cheney is having
his minions dust off the maps and is trying to decide if Halliburton can get another no-bid contract for the invasion of Norway.

They've got a lot of fish processing there, don't they? Weapons of Mass Lox?

Maybe it would be funnier if I didn't think that it might be true....

16. Bush's desperate October Surprise
Check this site:

http://www.tbrnews.org/Archives/a1131.htm#002

and look under "Voice of the White House". You will find Bush's "October Surprise" which he hopes will frighten Americans into voting for him. This article is written by a mole inside the White House who must be fearless. Read other articles by the Voice of the White House in the archives, including one which states that after the first debate Bush had to be sedated he was so angry.

42. If only there were more anti-Israeli sites...
If only there were more anti-Israeli sites this would be a much more peaceful world. The fact that Israeli spies in the Pentagon have shaped American policy in the middle east to benefit Israel's security, seems beyond belief. What is worse, is that oil company representatives in government (Bu$h/Cheney) have eagerly signed on to this plot which guarantees immense profit at no cost to them. The price for this madness is paid for with our taxes and the blood of American soldiers.
Hey America, wake up! Your fearless christian leaders have betrayed you.
John LeCarre would be ridiculed for devising such a fantastic plot but this cabal, in cahoots with the media, have a chance of pulling it off. Isn't it telling that Kerry is so pro-Israel?
Meet the new boss....

And yes, Norwegians are really "pissed". And it's a way of making sure the world knows that Norway's not a willing partner of the Coalition of the Willing - our conservative government made a unilateral decision. Needless to say, they are going the way of the dodo in the election next year.

35. No one likes lutefisk.
Except for the fanatics. The same with smalahove. Neither are traditional where I grew up, TG! My mom has a rule that no lutefisk shall ever be served at her table (she had to make it every Thursday for my grandfather growing up, and has hated it ever since) so that very rare occasion my stepdad wants to eat it, he has to arrange to eat it with friends at their place.

I mean, seriously, fish that has been soaked in lye! What were they thinking?
