Anti-Defamation League: Holocaust Remark by Sinclair Exec "Inappropriate"

To the Editor:

The statement by Mark Hyman, vice president of the Sinclair Broadcast Group, that the television networks were "acting like Holocaust deniers" with regard to coverage of anti-Kerry veterans groups is grossly inappropriate ("Sinclair Stations to Air Anti-Kerry Documentary," Oct. 11).

Regardless of Mr. Hyman's opinion of the quality of news coverage relating to Presidential campaign issues, his analogy to those who deny the Nazi murder of 6 million Jews and millions of others is insensitive and painful. Usage of Holocaust imagery to score a political point is unacceptable. He should repudiate the comment.

However, the accusations coming from Terry McAuliffe and others, is it because they are some elements of this that may reflect poorly on John Kerry? That it's somehow an in-kind contribution of George Bush?

If you use that logic and reasoning, that means every car bomb in Iraq would be an in-kind contribution to John Kerry. Weak job performance ratings that came out last month would have been an in- kind contribution to John Kerry. And that's just nonsense.

This is news. I can't change the fact that these people decided to come forward today. The networks had this opportunity over a month ago to speak with these people. They chose to suppress them. They chose to ignore them. They are acting like Holocaust deniers, pretending these men don't exist.

6. Saw that POS this morning

Despite what many DUers think of Bill hemmer, I thought he did a good interview. He asked Hyman point blank, "Is there bias against Kerry at Sinclair", and the incredible response was, "Why would you say something like that?" The man danced around several questions, never answering another blunt question about the legality of what they were doing. I thought he made Sinclair look really bad.

11. Typical Bushista. Refuse to face the real issue

which is the public use of airwaves for their own agenda. the same thing with refusing to honor the dead in Iraq by pulling the Nightline program that, unlike Bush, acknowledged the sacrifice they made for Bush's war crime.

I hate Bush republicans. I simply hate them.

I have no problem with decent conservatives. But people who support Bush, imo, are as disgusting as Bush is.

I heard Bush at a rally with his newest line about "run but not hide." Bush sounds like a stupid ass with that remark. Not to mention the way in which he is skirting dangerously close to revealing his fascist roots by equating a fellow American running against Bush's record as an enemy.

In one way, Bush makes it easy not to pay attention to politics. All you have to do is hear what he supports and you can know it's bad policy.

It doesn't matter what Camera is,in your opinion. If Camera got upset about the Holocaust remark , and took Sinclair to task, it would be a good thing for Kerry.


Camera operates on a grass root level, like we do here at DU. We would be VERY lucky if they got involved.

You've set the standard for the political and financial exploitation of the Holocaust. I especially like how you note (rightly) that equating Judaism and Zionism is anti-Semitic, then turn around and do everything in your power to convince people that they are in fact the same thing.
