George Noory "breaks" story about Chechen rebels entering the U.S.
Edited on Wed Oct-13-04 12:16 AM by neomonkey
He just claimed that the Washington Times will break this story tomorrow.

Intelligence officials state that 25 Chechen rebels, wearing black paramilitary backpacks, have entered the United States across the Mexican border.

U.S. security officials are investigating a recent intelligence report that a group of 25 Chechen terrorists illegally entered the United States from Mexico in July.
The Chechen group is suspected of having links to Islamist terrorists seeking to separate the southern enclave of Chechnya from Russia, according to officials familiar with intelligence reports

Let the October surprises begin...

Edited on Wed Oct-13-04 12:43 AM by Eloriel
there were a couple of stories posted here at DU about how our Immigration Service had orders "from on high" not to apprehend people crossing the borders. A lot of DUers scoffed (but not all of us). Anyone remember these? Have links?

And then there's this:

PUTIN EXPOSES US-UK TERROR STRATEGY BEHIND SCHOOL ATROCITY; RUSSIAN PRESS BLASTS ANGLO-SAXON TERRORIST CONTROLLERS

By Webster Griffin Tarpley
http://inn.globalfreepress.com/modules/news/article.php?storyid=793

Washington DC, September 14 -- In the wake of the terrorist atrocity at a school in Beslan, North Ossetia, in the Russian Federation, Russian President Vladimir Putin has made remarks to the western press which expose the key role of the US and British governments in backing Chechen terrorism. Whatever Putin’s previous role in events regarding Chechnya, his current political posture is one which sharply undercuts the legitimacy of the supposed Anglo-American “war on terror,” and which points up the hypocrisy of the Bush regime’s pledge that it will make no distinction between the terrorists and those who harbor them -- since Washington and London are currently harboring Chechens implicated in terrorism. All in all, Putin’s response to Chechen events has, with the third anniversary of 9/11, brought the collapse of the official 9/11 myth measurably closer. The hypocritical terror demagogy of Bush and Blair has now been undercut by the head of state of another permanent member of the UN Security Council...

On Monday September 6, Putin spoke for three and one half hours with a group of some 30 western correspondents and Russia experts at his dacha near Novo Ogarevo outside Moscow. There is no official transcript so far, but accounts have been published in The Guardian, The Independent, and Le Monde. The Washington Post waited until Friday, September 10 to publish an article, but left out the most significant remarks. There are now signs that the Anglo-American press is beginning a new campaign against Putin as a dictator, stressing the obvious in order to silence his attacks on the US-UK sponsorship of Chechen terror

Putin, a KGB veteran who knows whereof he speaks, told the gathering that the school massacre showed that “certain western circles would like to weaken Russia, just as the Romans wanted to destroy Carthage.” He thus suggested that the US and UK, not content with having bested Russia in the Cold War, now wanted to proceed to the dismemberment and total destruction of Russia – a Carthaginian peace like the one the Romans finally imposed at the end of the Punic Wars in 146 BC, when they poured salt into the land of Carthage so nothing would every grow there again. (Le Monde, September 8, 2004)

Edited to add: I realized I need to probably make myself clear: I don't know WHAT the hell is going on and don't at this point believe any thing in particular. All I have right now, aside from a couple of links I just posted, are questions -- and, of course, my eternal, hyper-cynicism and utter and complete distrust of ANYthing and everything our so-called government tells us.

15. Oh great -- anyone who speaks with an accent
will be picked up??

What does a Chechnyen accent sound like-- oh right -- French? or German? Oh well it doesn't matter -- anyone who speaks "European".

Based on previous behavior can we predict with Asscrotch and his kind will do??

Pick up some tourists and break into national programming with a "major" announcement?

Damn did I manage to plug into a virtual reality game? Will someone please tell me how to end this program??

Or have I been in a coma -- and all of this is the result of a really big bump on my head?

If this were a plot in a novel I'd burn the novel.

23. I agree. I can't listen to Coast to Coast AM anymore...
even if there's nothing else on the radio because it became so disgustingly obvious they were pushing neocon/"Christian Right" propaganda, which doesn't suprise me because it's mostly broadcast on Clear Channel stations. Every now and then Noory will have a worthwhile guest, but the show's turned into nothing more than a forum for every rightwing kook and crackpot with a book or subscription-based website to push.

I remember hearing about this story this summer on the program, and I'm not 100% sure about this, but I think Noory had either Steve Quayle or Doug Hagmann, or both of them, on talking about it. I figured it was a bunch of b.s. because Quayle is one of the "Christian Right"/Dominionists. Hagmann runs some oogie boogie "homeland security" website -- I can't remember the name of it off the top of my head -- which is pure neocon/Likudnik propaganda. Basically, it's a collection of reports to make the rubes who read it believe terrorists are hiding under their bed, etc., things like that. It was also the only place the Nick Berg beheading video could be found, despite the media claiming it was posted on a website that I remember people had a hard time accessing, or could not access.

34. Sad About Coast to Coast
I've been an Art Bell fan for years.

I don't believe any of this supernatural, occult, UFO stuff ... but the radio show was great late night entertainment. (Althought I do think that Bell and Streiber did write an important book "The Coming Global Super Storm".)

But George Noory is ruining the program. He is clearly a NewsMax, WorldNetDaily, Drudge follower.

Coast to Coast worked with Bell because is so assiduously AVOIDED politics. But Noory is slowly but surely departing from that successful formula.

Too bad ... I don't listen nearly as much as I used to.

He does a wonderful job as host of Coast to Coast during the week. (Art Bell is host on the Weekends). Noory is often outspoken against Bush and just the other night had a guest talking about how this administration had foreknowledge of 9/11.

We'll blend right in with all the poor Mexican immigrants who don't even have canteens, much less these cool backpacks. Oh, and if anybody does see us, it will be real scary on the news. "Chechen Rebels wear Chechen Rebel Suits to sneak into the U.S. Beware of accented men in funny clothing. They will be trying to blend into the neighborhood. Become invisible, so to speak. They're wearing Chechen Rebel Suits and carrying black fancy-ass backbacks and are depending on nobody noticing their presence. Vote for Bush."

12. This article reads like a joke! Some snippets:
Here's the scare tactic:

"U.S. security officials are investigating a recent intelligence report that a group of 25 Chechen terrorists illegally entered the United States from Mexico in July."

but wait:

"The intelligence report was supplied to the U.S. government in late August or early September"

just to be on the safe side:

"Authorities also were advised to remain alert for "static surveillance" by people who may be disguised as panhandlers, shoeshiners, newspaper or flower vendors, or street sweepers who seem out of place in a particular area."

add children to the mix:

"The Education Department letter said that school officials should examine "protective measure guidance" for helping to prevent and respond to a similar terrorist attack, were it to occur in the United States."

but wait:

"The notice said the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security are "currently unaware of any specific, credible information indicating a terrorist threat to public and private schools, universities or colleges in the United States."

uh oh, maybe the threat is serious:

"Fears of an attack on American schools also were raised by the recent discovery in Iraq of a computer disk containing data showing the layout of six schools in the United States, including districts in California, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, New Jersey and Oregon."

or maybe not:

"However, FBI officials said on Friday that there did not appear to be a terrorist threat connected to the computer disk"

You think they would try to throw in a dose of originality or creativity, but it's the same tired rigamoral. This is the Washington Times, can't expect much. I fear this bullshit story will get legs.

This has been floated quite a bit, but now they are pushing it a little further. Am I to assume they will suddenly arrest a bunch of these "terrorists" handing out Jehovah Witness literature in East L.A.? Will Shrub be our hero again?

Edited on Wed Oct-13-04 04:53 AM by Aidoneus
being the original "Caucasians", after all.. This piece is bullshit, but it's required:--the "Chechen trace" must periodically be uncovered everywhere, or else the Sun will implode and all life on earth will be extinguished in a long drawn out chain reaction. So Noory and the rest tasked with pushing these stories aren't paranoid idiots, they're saving all life on the planet..

Actually, the school bit--in the official commission, it's come out that pretty much most of the dead & "missing" came from the tanks, rocket launchers, and flamethrowers used to "liberate" the place. The Russian government doesn't want all parts of the report to be made public, because it's just too scary. Most of those who took the place were from the other North Caucasus republics, also Russian Slavs, a Ukrainian, and a man from Siberia; it was planned mainly by a Russian Colonel, an Ingush, a Ukrainian-Osset, and a Karachai "mastermind" sort of bloke who did not participate.

Anyway, the last band of "Arab terrorists" caught crossing the border were actually native american indians.. but they're all the same to al-Cracka. BE AFRAID! BOO! BOOGY-BOOGY-BOOGY!

What a joke. Over the past three years, the right has trotted out his articles as "proof" of WMD, Iraq/Al Qaeda connections, and more. Obviously, none were true. Notice how no one ever goes on record in one of his "scoops." You'd think something as important as terrorists crossing the border would get at least one high ranking official to go on the record.

And, like others here, I question why Chechens would come all the way here to attack the U.S. when they are having no problem attacking their real enemy at home. Gertz is only using Chechens to play the school angle and scare soccer moms.

Chechen Terrorists With Backpacks Cross Into Arizona From Mexico — Report

U.S. security officials are investigating a recent intelligence report that 25 Chechen militants illegally entered the United States from Mexico in July. The group, linked to separatists in Chechnya that took part in the deadly Beslan school siege last month, reportedly crossed into a mountainous part of Arizona from northern Mexico, wearing backpacks, The Washington Times reported, citing officials speaking on conditions of anonymity.

The area was said to be difficult for U.S. border guards to monitor.
The intelligence report was supplied to the U.S. government in late August or early September and was based on information from an intelligence source that has been proved reliable in other instances, one official was quoted as saying.
But he added that he did not know whether the report was true.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection was aware of the intelligence report and confirmed it to The Washington Times, but a spokesman said agents were unable to verify it. U.S. security officials are on alert for al Qaeda members allegedly planning to cross over into the United States from the south after an operative was reportedly spotted in Mexico.

Chechen separatists have been linked in the past to al Qaeda.
