Record registrations in swing states
With all the sour stuff being batted around about voter registration fraud and the like, it's not too bad to see record breaking registration numbers out there. May we have an election that works fairly well considering humans are involved.

BY DEBORAH BARFIELD BERRY
WASHINGTON BUREAU

"WASHINGTON - In New Mexico, 200,000 new voters were added to the registration rolls this year, a record number.

In Nevada, there were 100,000 new registrations in one county alone since the state's primary last month."

By the time the primary rolled around in Ohio last March, the state had a record number of voters registered - 7.1 million. Once all registration applications are processed, election officials say it could climb to 7.9 million.

The more voices that are heard the better. And if it is a "fair election" I would be more that happy to accept the results...Apathy is definitely a major problem in this country...

2. Apathy is about the same as cynicism
both have been rampant and I blame the politicos for it. People just get sick of the corruption and the arrogance after awhile.

3. I was just in a voter registration office in Illinois today...
...to ask about my girlfriend's registration. Apparently the registration process is so backlogged, Springfield doesn't even know if they'll be able to process everyone in time.

And this in a blue state! I think it's more for Obama than Kerry. But with all the GOP crap in Illinois, I think these candidates give Illinois democrats something to really get excited about. God knows I am.

5. I'm on it.
It was just one chick in a rural county seat telling me this, so she could just be talking out of her ass. My guess is it's just bureaucrats bitching about working hard.

It was too late to call Springfield by the time we got home. Of course the girlfriend has a real interest in the outcome on a personal level, so we're following up.

I'm calling the chick today and finding out who I need to contact in Springfield. I'm already going to volunteer for the job if they'll have me.

ha ha, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to freak you out. If it's a problem, I'll definitely be shouting from the hilltops of DU-land.

6. Virginia: 4.5 million registered. Highest in history. Over
64,000 in one month (I think). Let's go blue for Kerry! Ahh that would be soooo sweet.

7. Some people call these numbers insignificant.
200,000 in New Mexico or 100,000 in Nevada is HUGE no matter how somebody spins it.
