Uganda's President Criticizes Bush Administration's Handling of War in Ira
Edited on Wed Oct-13-04 12:19 PM by cal04
Uganda's president criticized the U.S. handling of the war in Iraq and said the Bush administration had pursued interests that were not disclosed to coalition partners before the hostilities.

The bloody Iraqi insurgency is a result of the U.S. "arrogance" and mishandling of relations between its troops and Iraqi civilians, President Yoweri Museveni - one of the four African members of the U.S.-led coalition in Iraq - said Tuesday while opening a military college.

His remarks were reported Wednesday in the state-owned New Vision newspaper and confirmed by Information Minister James Nsaba Buturo.
Despite concern over the handling of Iraq, Uganda has no plans to pull out of the coalition, Buturo told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

Uganda backed the coalition because the Bush administration claimed that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction and that he was a friend of (Sudanese President) Omar el-Bashir "who was my enemy," Museveni was quoted as saying.

Only "coalition" members may feed at the warprofiteering trough;

Larry Di Rita, spokesperson for Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, said the decision was designed to encourage more countries to join the US-led coalition; those not now in the coalition may qualify as bidders for the contracts by contributing troops or simply declaring themselves members of the coalition, he said.

He said it would be a welcome gesture if a country decided to join the coalition, even if it simply offered public support by stating its intention to join without sending troops to Iraq.

Neither Uganda, nor any other African country, has contributed troops to the war in Iraq and all four countries are too poor to contribute financially. But the governments have pledged support for the US position on Iraq.

4. well...
The president of Uganda can see through the web of lies and the incompetence - it's too bad Bush* supporters can't or won't acknowledge what a disaster this misadventure really is.

Uganda, by the way, produces one of the finest coffees in the world in the Bugisu region. If you can find it, it's defintely worth a go.
