Pascal Lamy told reporters on Wednesday that Airbus was, nevertheless, "extremely happy" the United States had taken its case to the World Trade Organization (WTO) because it believed Boeing's 7E7 "Dreamliner" would take a hit.
The United States last week filed a complaint at the WTO challenging European loans that help Airbus develop aircraft, prompting an immediate counter-suit from the European Union against other forms of U.S. support for Boeing.
But the United States denies its move was a bid to boost President Bush's standing in Democrat-leaning Washington state, Boeing's industrial heartland, ahead of next month's election.
