SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has achieved lofty personal goals throughout his career, is shying away from the daunting task of getting President Bush elected by Californians. Instead, he is narrowly focusing on a handful of local issues.
That strategy deprives Bush of the services of America's most charismatic Republican campaigner in its most populous state. It also sets up Schwarzenegger to emerge a winner on election day without alienating the state's majority Democrats.
With Democrat John Kerry expected to win the state's 55 electoral votes, the presidential candidates are airing very few television ads. For months they have limited California appearances mostly to fund-raising and national TV shows...
