Dayton Defends Capitol Hill Office Closure (Cites Frist & Senate Sergeant)
WASHINGTON -- Sen. Mark Dayton on Wednesday defended his much-maligned decision to close his Washington office until Election Day, saying several pieces of intelligence led him to believe the Capitol was at risk of an attack.

Dayton, D-Minn., said he made his decision based on a top-secret intelligence report presented by Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., coupled with the Sept. 11 commission's conclusion that one of the planes hijacked Sept. 11, 2001, was heading for the Capitol.

"We know that al-Qaida has a history of going back to targets it was unsuccessful in destroying," Dayton said in a telephone interview Wednesday evening. Law enforcement agencies have said there is no new intelligence indicating the Capitol is a target.

Dayton also said Senate Sergeant at Arms Bill Pickle called the intelligence report, which was presented two weeks ago, the most "declarative statement" in his career.

1. This is great. Dayton is calling them on playing the terror card
on the election. Good for him.

3. Yes, this 50th warning is serious --we promise!
But we can't be too specific. Be alert.

4. Dayton has become the first
Edited on Thu Oct-14-04 04:35 AM by FrustratedDemInNC
U.S. senator to challenge the rush to consensus that "The 9/11 Commission Report" settles the open questions of Sept. 11, 2001.

In hearings last Friday, Sen. Dayton (D-MN) raised an obvious point: if the timeline of air defense response as promoted in the Kean Commission's best-selling book is correct, then the timeline presented repeatedly by NORAD during the last two years was completely wrong. Yet now no one at NORAD is willing to comment on their own timeline!

When the official story of 9/11 can be changed repeatedly without anyone ever being held accountable, we have no right to ever again expect honest government. Please read the following story and do your part to support Sen. Dayton for highlighting the contradiction, and to encourage the media to follow up."

5. you know, this should be taken to the extreme
when will our dem leaders follow suit?

can you imagine if every dem were to do this with the next threat in the lead up to the election? and, in turn, inform the public to not go to work, duct tape all your windows and stand by for further instructions. the pres* would make an announcement that there is no need for panic, the dems could counter with, "well, is there a threat or not!!!!??????"

what would be the consequences?
