Texas falcon tracker finds foul environment

MARATHON, Texas, Oct 14 (Reuters) - Naturalist-adventurer Alan Tennant has tracked peregrine falcons across North America and does not like what he sees.

Pristine wilderness that was once the predator bird's natural habitat is being destroyed at an alarming rate, even in remote places like northern Alaska, where oil company workers told him over the summer they hope soon to tap into the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

"It's like the Oklahoma Land Rush up there," he told Reuters in a recent interview.

Environmental destruction is something Tennant has become attuned to after his years of chasing falcons to learn more about their homes and habits.

1. Hawks and Wolves in Ontario
Right on Highway's 8 and 21 if you look up on any given day you can spot a Redtail or two every couple of miles. I think I saw a falcon a while back.

Now that fall is in full swing and the cottagers are gone for the season, the wolves are coming back. You can see their footprints all along the beach.

Canada ain't perfect, but at least they don't compulsively piss and shit in their own bathtub.

2. In Minnesota they've established a breeding population
in the heart of the cities. The falcons nest on platforms fixed to the tallest buildings and power plants. They've actually adapted quite well to urban environments.
